There were a pair of Sokolov guards at the entrance who demanded identification from anyone who arrived. Versha managed to eventually find hers and the guards let her inside. Za, a Cathar, was the next in.
A man called Rein Begam greeted Versha and introduced himself and the woman behind him as Adalynn Roux. They exchanged a few words about the job and Versha went to find a seat. Za went and sat next to someone called Krastio Virtanen, who explained that his expertise was in tech and offered to watch Za's back. Layna was the next to arrive and she asked the guards when Odilo was going to arrive. She was told to wait and took a seat opposite Jaromir Overton who told her that she looked experienced. R'kikki was next in and was promptly told that there was no scrap metal around. She explained that she was there for the contract and, after some discussion, the guards let her in. She stopped next to two women deep in conversation about couplings - Natela Klima and Mailys Martin - and offered to help fix them. Vylan was the last to arrive, a lothcat on his shoulder. He exasperated the guards into letting him in and was greeted by Adalynn who was interested in Donk and hinted that she was an explosives expert.
At last the group was called into the hangar. They were taken into a side room with a man and a woman who were deep in a heated conversation, with the man telling the woman, Glykeria, that he felt her pay was very fair. The woman left followed by a guard with an upside down red triangle on his helmet. When the woman had left, the man, Odilo explained their task - the Zedron Liberation Front had moved into Nar Shaddaa. There was conflict in the quarter as they had the robots on their side and had some sympathetic humans who also opposed the Hutt Cartel. The group there were to be auxiliaries.
He offered wine to the group, with Vylan and Versha accepting. It was from his homeworld of Serov and he told Vylan that he could be in charge of one of the teams. A mercenary called Tullus would be leading the other team.
At last they were given the signal to depart. The shuttle roared to life and the doors slammed shut as the ground crew cleared the way from the ship exterior. The shuttle left the hangar and flew towards the cityscape of Nar Shaddaa below, the colours and lights hiding the destitution of the undercity beneath them. R'kikki helped deploy the landing gear as they approached.
The coordinator contacted the group through the commlink, introducing himself as Cornello Kowalski. He told them that their task was to back up Alpha Team and rendezvous at the entrance to the landing pad. There were some commlinks by the exit that they could take to communicate with the other team.
Kowalski gave the following instructions: the Zedron had tried to overrun the whole district and he wasn't sure what their goal was. The first objective was to put down the rioters. The Hutt Cartel didn't care about the rioters and only wanted them neutralised - their task was to do it quickly and cleanly with as little damage to buildings as possible. The group also needed to work out why the rioters were targeting the sector. He also called Odilo a prince.
As the group arrived, they noted that the landing pad looked like it had seen better days. Tullus Warrwick was waiting for them along with a troop of Sokolov commandos. One looked different, with a long sword across his back.
The building seemed to have been involved in a recent firefight, with blaster marks on walls but fortunately no bodies. Tullus told them to head southwards - the rioters had already gone on and were spreading out, taking lots of civilian casualties. He would head east with Team Alpha. Vylan took the lead, saying that they needed to stop them attacking civilians, and that the ranged fighters should stay back. R'kikki agreed, saying improvisation was the best plan. She started working on the control panel to open the door.
The city streets were carnage with people dressed in red and black firing makeshift weapons, some looting buildings and others attacking civilians. Some of them were setting fire to the area, including corpses and buildings, the fires giving an ominous red glow to the area. Za took out the first one with a single shot, and R'kikki managed a second soon afterwards. The rioters retaliated, shooting at the group and one bringing out a makeshift flamethrower to attack Versha, Vylan and R'kikki. After a short but nasty fight, the group managed to take out the rioters, Versha sticking to non-lethal force. Vylan finished the last two off by using the Force and slamming them into each other, which interested some members of the group.
When the dust started to settle, civilians started to emerge from their hiding places, thanking the group for their help and warning them about the situation on Nar Shaddaa. Layna started examining the bodies of the rioters. It seemed likely that they were using communication implants, and Versha had a go at removing one of them before patching up Vylan. A civilian asked for help hiding and R'kikki persuaded a nearby resident to shelter them, a Rodian and a Weequay already inside the building. The two of them quickly discussed telling the group about a back way and decided against it. R'kikki tried to push the subject persuading them to tell her about a back passageway to a shop.
The group found some others sheltering in a nearby shop, with a dead Zabrak on the ground. Vylan was able to convince them that the fighting was over and to join them in the shelter.
Bonus Force Point
+4 to Versha for her Convictions and putting herself at risk for them, +1 to Vylan for Persuasive approach to handling the situation with the civilians and for the trick shot
There were only two in the room but there were other rioters in the room next door and the group hadn't avoided notice. Za managed to take out one from the doorway. Layna quickly snapped the neck of someone nearby but got caught by another who was holding another flamethrower. Za shot at another one from the other side of the shopkeeper. The shot went right through the rioter's shoulder and ignited something that caused him to explode.
Meanwhile Versha unsuccessfully attempted to negotiate the cost of a set of cups with the Duro shopkeeper in lieu of payment for the damage, with the shopkeeper demanding over 60 times the cost of the item.
The building seemed to belong to the Hutt Cartel, which deterred most of the group from looting it. A couple of locals started helping themselves to the contents of one of the cupboards as the group left for the door. The group went through the bodies of the rioters to look for anything useful, as Versha picked up a datapad and holocommunicator from the hostage.
The group, led by Vylan and Layna, went on to question the unconscious rioter that Versha had stunned. He said that they were showing the Hutt Cartel that they were not to be messed with and admitted that he wasn't part of the Zedron group - they had been asked to make a lot of noise and loot the area, and they would be paid for it. He got his orders from someone called Karden Benes.
It took Vylan threatening to remove the man's fingernails and Za with the threat of pliers for the man to add more. Benes ran several "side-hustles" to collect protection money, including a dinky little lounge called the Big Sarlacc which was a big, glowing place. He then changed his mind and said it was called the Bloated Carghoul. They had also been told to not hit Tenement House, medical places, and a warehouse. The warehouse in question was to the north and had a crate and they were told to not touch it because it was for another team. The code was 35053. A team had been sent to the building, past the warehouse. One specific team was assigned to the area and they had been told to expect outside help, although he didn't know what the outside help was. He also admitted that most Zedron had cybernetic commlinks in the brain.
There was some discussion about what to do with him, as the Hutt Cartel would likely kill him on sight. They could hand him over to the locals to determine his fate, or kill him outright. Versha was in favour of taking him back to the ship and tying him up there. Despite his claims that he had only killed droids, the group elected to throw him in the nearest rubbish dumpster, Versha warning the Duro shopkeeper that there was a wild creature inside that needed rescuing.
Upon returning to the building, it appeared that the locals looting the cupboards had been killed by poisoned darts, likely fired by the Hutt Cartel to prevent thieves.
R'kikki updated Tulles on the situation and the group was planning to head north to the warehouse but decided to head to a nearby cantina instead when they heard the sound of gunshots. There were civilians sheltering behind some of the tables, along with more rioters and a Zedron droid. The firefight was short, and they rescued some lieutenants of the Hutt Cartel who were from the Kousoge Street Hutt Cartel outpost.
There was something going on inside the cantina, with a Zedron rioter pointing a gun among the civilians inside. He seemed to be trying to get someone to empty the till.
Bonus Force Point
+3 to Vylan for leading the interrogation and being convincing; +2 to Laysha for trying to help the hostage and utilizing the window
The lieutenant demanded the Hutt Cartel bring out Otib Seket before they would enter any negotiations. He said that the Hutt Cartel had abused people and droids for too long. Everyone else would get minor punishments like working in space mines, although Vylan pointed out that that was also something that the Hutt Cartel would do. Marnhull tried to tell them to stay calm and Vylan agreed that they could talk it out, adding that he didn't even know who this person was that the lieutenant had mentioned.
The group talked to the bouncer to find out what had been going on. Apparently the lieutenant was Benes and he had started making moves a few months ago, starting small and taking on bigger jobs. He and Otiz from the Hutt Cartel were always fighting. The group asked about the places that the other Zedron person had talked about, and the bouncer shared his approval of leaving him in the rubbish. He knew the warehouse and had walked past but had never been in and didn't know who owned it, although there had been a lot of crates moving around nearby. R'kikki pointed out that she didn't think that the Zedron were Zedron and thought they were only taking the name but the bouncer thought that they were either real or good mimics. He also mentioned that one of the guards Layna had taken out wasn't from nearby and that the Zedron didn't seem likely to get people from offworld so most of the people seemed to be from Nar Shaddaa, although not from this part of the moon. It seemed odd as they had wanted to free people in the local area.
Bruce, the bartender, hadn't seen people moving to the area in large numbers. He wasn't overly fond of the group after rescuing the civilians, telling Versha that they ought to pay for the damages and demanding that they leave, despite her protests that living civilians were more likely to return than dead ones. Versha showed him a rude hand gesture as she left.
Outside, R'kikki had a go with the hostage's holocommunicator. It was locked but she found the address book easily enough - parents and siblings were listed as contacts and she had a sister called Cecelia, and a few other contacts. The datapad was similarly locked down. Meanwhile Vylan contacted Warrick who encouraged him to come over to to them - they were only a little way north of the group.
Upon arriving, Warrick brought the group up to speed. Tenement House was where they were planning to put civilians in, and there was a doctor nearby who had been helping out - some civilians had been passing in and out of the building. R'kikki had a bad feeling about them staying Tenement House and suggested the Hutt Cartel outpost as a safe place instead.
Warrick was called up north to help out with an incident, leaving the group to investigate the two buildings plus the warehouse the Zedron were keeping clear of. The group decided to split up. Versha would check out the medical place, Vylan and R'kikki would check out Tenement House and Za and Layna would check out the warehouse. Versha brought some of the civilians along to the medical centre, an injured Rodian among them.
Bonus Force Point
+4 to R'kikki for risking themselves and disabling the bomb and being downright heroic, +1 to Vylan due to excellent Drunk Vylan roleplay
The receptionist said that the doctor was out. She seemed jumpy and Versha asked if everything was alright. The receptionist held up a sign saying help. Versha checked out the room and alerted the rest of the group to the situation via their communications.
Meanwhile R'kikki and Za approached a gateway that seemed pristine compared to their surroundings. R'kikki had a look at the mechanics to see if she could open the door. Za called Warrick to ask if there was a way to open it, and he told them that they had to ask their slicer to cut through with a fusion cutter when they had passed that way. R'kikki identified some other cuts made by others, like Zedron, who seemed to be on the wrong side of the door.
R'kikki forced it open, finding a street on the other side that led to the warehouse. Za quickly identified a few cameras and pointed them out to R'kikki. Za lifted her up to get to them but she wasn't able to disable them so Za shot them out.
Meanwhile Vylan and Layna were heading towards to Tenement House, which was covered in graffiti and looked more like a prison than a house. Layna disassembled the lock to get in. Inside looked like a waiting room with a droid on the other side of the room and corpses lying on the ground. Layna examined one of the bodies. It seemed to have suffered a big electric shock.
The droid informed them that some rioters had invaded and had attacked civilians. It had dealt with the situation. Vylan expressed interest in renting out a room and asked to look around. The droid agreed. It assured them that the place was safe, with a state-of-the-art security system and a private security company on call.
The droid took them to a room and stepped out to retrieve the paperwork. Vylan spotted some red droplets on the ground. Versha contacted everyone in the group to update them on the situation and Za and R'kikki added an update for their own situation. Vylan and Layna sprinted over to help Za and R'kikki.
Back in the medical centre, Versha was talking to a man who was sobbing but who had no tears. He explained that he had lost his adopted daughter Patrice a few weeks ago and had been searching for her since. Unable to do much more inside but wary of the receptionist's plea, Versha asked one of the locals to run over to the nearest cantina to fetch Marnhull and explain the situation. She readied her weapon and sat down to wait.
Inside the warehouse, the fight was underway. Za was attacked by the vanguard. Another attacked R'kikki, taking a swing at her high above her head. She ran. The first one knocked Za out, choosing to leave him unconscious rather than killing him. A third one started shaking, and started backing away from Za. The Zedron called in reinforcements as Vylan and Layna arrived.
The fight was brutal but the Zedron were eventually finished off, one surrendering and Vylan taking him in handcuffs. A short detour to the ship resulted in their prisoner being thrown into the ship's cargo hold. Layna went to check on Za, relieved that he was still alive, and picked him up and carried him.
Bonus Force Point
+4 to Za for "handling" the cameras and handling the ambush well in character, +1 to Vylan for excellent roleplay, cool actions in combat
With no more immediate threats, Versha turned her attention to Za, managing to bring him back to consciousness. Layna brought Za up to speed then went to check on the receptionist who was continuing to shoot at (and miss) the plant. One shot ricocheted off the wall and hit her squarely in the chest, killing her outright. Vylan used the Force to throw the plant against the wall, which turned out to be hiding another shrouded rioter. Vylan and Versha rushed to the window but it was too late to save her.
At that moment, the doctor stepped out, introducing herself as Dr Seppanen and helping to patch the group up. Versha had a look around the reception area, finding a few credits on the body of the rioter and leaving them on the desk. The bouncer from next door chose that moment to appear, decided that everything was under control, and then disappeared again. Surprised that the place was as well stocked as it was, Layna asked about the medical practice's funding, not buying the doctor's explanation that her parents were funding it and asked Vylan to look into it. Vylan kept the doctor talking while R'kikki unlocked the door at the back of the surgery and slipped through the door.
Bonus Force Point
+4 to Versha for keeping well in character and having good awareness in RP, and clutch revival, +1 to Vylan for navigating a complex situation and de-escalating it thoroughly.
After they had passed the Duro's shop, Za showed the others his datapad. It had a message saying that he had dreamt of the machine and what it did with the people that they hadn't been able to save.
There was some banging from a nearby dumpster and they pulled out the rioter that they had left there earlier. Vylan pulled him out to find him covered in excrement and worse. Vylan and Kai went to visit the Duro to see if they could get cleaned up. After some discussion, the Duro agreed, and Kai offered to pay 50 credits for the cups, which the Duro greatly appreciated.
The cantina seemed similarly destroyed with a giant hole in the wall near the dance floor and several similar patches of smeared blood around the building. The cuts on the wall were clean as if cut by a laser and R'kikki decided that Vylan shouldn't see the place, persuading him to check out a nearby building instead. There was a place called the Treasure House on the way, which seemed to have been left largely intact.
While trying to access the building, R'kikki managed to access the camera system, spotting various people and a droid missing an arm around the building. Eventually she gave up trying to get in and Vylan took over with his lightsaber as R'kikki tried to shut off the power nearby. It took a few minutes but Vylan managed to get inside. This attracted Versha's attention, drawn by the glowing stick. Vylan noticed and asked her, to which she wondered if he was a "Jedda" and if he knew them, to which Vylan only vehemently responded that he was not a Jedi.
Inside was a maintenance room with the droid. R'kikki managed to reactivate the droid although it seemed to have issues with its memory starting from nine hours ago. Za spotted some missing tools as R'kikki tried to access its memory. She was able to retrieve most of it before the droid tried to alert security but fortunately nothing happened thanks to the power being out. Layna took the droid's power cell to power a nearby terminal instead to look at the logs - it looked like something had occurred shortly after Vylan and Layna had left the building. A shadowy figure had entered, hit the droid a few times, and then left.
Za examined the wall, quickly realising that it seemed to be boobytrapped and he and Layna examined it. Versha was still staring at Vylan, only catching herself when he started to whisper loudly to R'kikki.
Bonus Force Point
+3 to Vylan for being highly proactive and maintaining her character rather well, +1 to Leyna for staying behind and looking for survivors while the others tended to R'kkiki, +1 to Versha for actively trying to help everyone and for shining as the healer.
The group were approaching the ship at this point. Versha thought she heard something and pointed it out to Layna but followed Vylan on board with R'kikki. Vylan joined Layna outside after R'kikki was settle and heard something from inside a nearby crate. He knocked on it.
There was someone locked inside the crate and unable to escape. Vylan told her to get back. He pulled a lightsaber out of his bag and cut a hole in the side of the crate. Inside was an emaciated Twi'ilek dancer. Vylan and Layna quickly escorted her back to the ship.
Back on board, Mailys gave them an update on the situation, describing the weapon as a crop duster with lasers. She sounded horrified. R'kikki called her over and handed her a credit chip, saying it was hers for helping with the refugees. Vylan asked if anyone had a change of clothes for the Twi'ilek. Versha managed to dig out a sheet and some loose-fitting clothes which she handed over to the Twi'ilek and Layna went off in search of food.
Versha went to check on the Twi'ilek. She was scarred and emaciated but didn't seem to be in immediate danger of dying. After giving her some food, and learning that her name was Auromkipu, Versha left her alone and went to update the others.
Bonus Force Point
+4 to R'kikki for helping out with computer stuff, hacking, dealing with the droid, and utilizing deception in a creative way; +1 to Leyna for leading the party and helping to push everyone while everyone was shellshocked.
The group kept moving through the building, finding several other rooms. R'kikki knew what was inside some from the camera feed and opened the one that had a dead body. She opened the door.
The lockbox looked like it had been recently looted, more recently than the victim had died. They thought that was probably due to Leon. Versha wondered if it was worth asking him, and Vylan agreed, soon discovering that Leon had only visited the owner's apartment, although he had looked into checking out a woman's house who seemed to be looking well below her means before deciding that it wasn't worth the trouble. He also thought that the riots had seemed preplanned, which surprised him. A Rattataki seemed to have been involved. Leon had found the information on the holonet that was encrypted and whoever it was clearly had extensive resources.
Vylan went to question the neighbours. One said that the neighbour, Ben, was quiet and he hadn't been seen for about a week. He had some experience working in a morgue and looked at the victim but it seemed to be the owner of the building. R'kikki suggested that Vylan should check out the flat with the woman.
Versha went to question the rioter who was still outside. He told her that the Zedron wanted to keep the building safe because there was some software that had to be kept away from the holonet. He wasn't sure exactly where it was but it was either in Tenement House or the warehouse.
Drawn by instinct, Za knocked on one of the other doors. He found someone on the other side who he recognised as being a Disciple of Soraia and who introduced himself as Brother Caelin, a devotee of Nor'axa.
Caelin said that the person responsible for the murder remained within the building. He had some information about the killer - likely female, although could share feminine traits, and he believed that there was no passion behind the motive - the murder had seemed too clean and precise. After exchanging contact details, he also warned Za that they were likely being hunted.
Bonus Force Point
+3 to Za for awesome background stuff that played into the investigation really well; +2 to Vylan for leading the investigation and conversation and doing it well, dealt with the thief effectively.
There was something in the air that made the nearest group members feel lightheaded and R'kikki recognised it as a paralytic poison. Vylan handed over his blaster, asking the woman to stop. She acquiesced. After some threats on both sides, the woman admitted that she thought she knew who had killed the owner and insisted that everyone introduced themselves, adding that her own name was Renata Durand. She admitted that she worked for an independent contracting organisation that wanted to disrupt the Zedron and she was trying to find a passkey that would open up a specific door. R'kikki wondered if Sokolov was fighting the Zedron as a distraction to retrieve the key and the group decided to try to investigate the warehouse and try to retrieve the passkey. Versha returned part-way through the conversation but she had heard enough to decide to stay out of sight.
He wanted to know if the group had seen a woman by the description of the woman from earlier. He wasn't convinced by Vylan's denials but Versha agreed with Vylan, adding that she couldn't be sure that they had seen an individual fitting that descrition as there were lots of others who looked like her in Nar Shaddaa. He added that she wasn't dangerous but that she had gone missing and had information and there was a reward for her safe return. The group were more inclined to support Renata than the newcomer.
Bonus Force Point
+4 to R'kikki for brokering a deal with Renata and managing to make a bad situation into a good one, also did a great job moving the story forward, being the left hand of the leader, and also the groin shots; +1 to Za for combat badassery, doing 40+ points of damage multiple times.
Vylan insisted on going back to the ship with Versha but the group were wary of attracting Sokolov's attention. Renata said that she might be able to mask the signals from the ship from Sokolov. Back on board, Layna found a traditional Echani warstaff inside the lockbox belonging to Vem Olkiss. Vylan accessed the datapad that belonged to a Jedi Knight called Enora Asami who had been exiled for falling to the dark side during the Third Galactic War and whose whereabouts were currently unknown. It seemed to be a journal of sorts. With Versha still unconscious, Vylan went through the datapad, learning that he had found a barab ingot crystal which could changed a lightsaber's damage to do fire damage. It had belonged to Enora Asami and she was planning to add it to her own lightsaber but was having trouble attuning to it. She was on Nar Shaddaa to track down some slaves and was investigating the Zedron.
Renata entered the room and wanted to know if they would be able to keep their cover. She suggested contacting Warrick to keep him in the loop, adding that numbers would be to their advantage but was wary about trusting anyone other than themselves, including Warrick. She went to check the passkey with R'kikki and Vylan suggested the two of them could work on it together.
Bonus Force Point
+3 to Za for dominating combat with friggin' massive crits, for the win, as well as a baller finishing shot; +2 to Versha for taking the explosion like a boss, and taking one for the team in general.
R'kikki and Renata managed to get into the passkey, discoveries that it was a location on Nar Shaddaa. Meanwhile Vylan updated the rest of the group on the situation. Layna seemed to be familiar with the location and was able to track it to a highly secure zone not too far away. It likely belonged to the Republic but the group were wary of making enemies of the Republic. The warehouse was to the north of where the group was located. The passkey would take them to the north east. Renata would stay behind but she asked the group to call her over if they were able to use it.
The group headed northward, the hue of the lighting shifting and residential blocks giving way to production facilities as they entered the Cayburn industrial district. Inside, R'kikki opened the door to the loading bay, finding Team A on the other side. They were engaged in combat with two rioters as Warrick didn't want them flanking them further inside. Adalynn blew open the door, Layna following up with a flash grenade as Za and R'kikki took out the two rioters. The group systematically took out the rioters, made much easier by a group of temporarily blind enemies, and Za finished them off with a powerful sun grenade.
Renata contacted the group, telling them that there was a big meeting going on inside that they would likely be interested in, and that there was a riot outside. They learnt from Warrick that the Zedron had several civilians in the riot so they couldn't just go in and shoot them. He also wanted to listen in to the meeting and had been told that they were making a bomb inside and wanted to put a stop to it.
The group decided to split up, R'kikki volunteering to help with the jamming, Versha wanting to help out the civilians in the riot, Vylan going to try to find the comunications jammer, Za going to sneak into the meeting and Layna going to try to stop the bomb. Warrick assigned a member of his own team to help out each of the group.
Za and Jaromir headed off to the meeting, climbing into a different room and trying to break into the computer. They managed to break in, seeing a cloaked woman who was saying that the Republic would know they were there unless they had a device in their possession, one that she would hand over in exchange for credits. A male figure responded that he knew everything he needed to know and shot the woman, taking the device from her body. Za decided it was time to leave and he and Jaromir chased after him but were unable to see where he went.
Meanwhile R'kikki and Adalynn picked open a locked door. There were rioters on the other side but they fought their way through, finding themselves in the same room as the bomb, several more rioters and a droid, narrowly avoiding an early explosion when one of the rioters' shots went wild. After a long tussle, involving R'kikki's weapon unexpectedly emptying and her taking a flamethrower from one of the dead rioters, R'kikki managed to disable the bomb.
Bonus Force Point
+3 to R'kikki for playing really well, did well with disabling the bomb, Nar Shaddaa is still in one piece, mostly, as much as it can be; +1 to Za for working with a situation his character wasn't necessarily built for, and adapting well to it; +1 to Versha for sticking well to the character.
Layna and Krastio fought they way through a turret- and Zedron-filled corridor to reach a room full of security terminals and retrieve a lot of information about the building and its facilities. Krastio had a task of his own to complete, and Layna spied on him while retrieving what she could of the building and weapon schematics.
Vylan and Rein went off in search of the jammer, tracing it to a sentient crate that called itself Roy. Roy challenged Vylan with some riddles, with Vylan tricking Roy into giving it some basic information about its creator and asking Leon to use the details to find the answers to the riddles. With the right answers, Vylan was able to disable the jammer and took the crate with him.
Meanwhile Layna and Krastio stopped outside a security door. Krastio quickly unlocked it. There were some Zedron on the other side and the two of them quickly took them out. There were some clicks echoing from the walls giving the pair a few seconds notice before some laser turrets appeared and started shooting at them, both of them getting injured.
Krastio attempted to disable them through the terminal while Layna attempted to open the door at the far end of the corridor. There was another Zedron at the far end who shot at her, but she managed to avoid taking on more injuries.
The room had a terminal inside, along with more Zedron and Layna quickly took them down, catching a droid by surprise when she hit it. The droid had been attempting to open up the part of the facility that included the experimental weaponry. Layna quickly shut the program down to stop them accessing that part of the facility. Krastio identified a large turret in the building that he didn't think had been authorised and thought it should be shut down. Layna agreed, and the two managed to put a greater layer of security around the system to prevent others accessing it.
Layna also decided to check out the security system to look around the building. Krastio admitted that he had some other tasks to carry out, turning his attention to another console. It seemed to be an arms facility with the security detail covered by Sokolov and once owned by BlastTech Industries but now owned by ArcTech Incorporated, which seemed to be a much newer company. BlastTech had been having financial trouble and the facility have been sold off to The Benefactor. The chicken is on the spaceship. Layna also used the security feed to spy on what Krastio was doing, which seemed to be trying to access and delete some of the facility schematics while saving them to a portable drive.
On the security feed, Layna could see several walkers along with more Zedron standing next to a huge enforcer robot, along with the positions of other Zedron around the facility.
Vylan walked into the storage facility with Rein to try to find the jammer. Vylan tried to access a crate with a screen, and the crate challenged him to a riddle, introducing itself as Roy. Vylan tried to persuade it to open, telling it that it could make its own decisions and that he could take it on a datachip to a friend who could show it how to be free. The AI wasn't convinced and even Vylan explaining the concept of a pinkie promise wouldn't get it to consider it.
The riddles were specific questions about the creator of the crate, including the make of his first speeder, the neighbourhood in which he grew up in, and his father in law's first name. Vylan managed to trick the crate into giving it some information about its creator, Cuy Vohmod. With that, he asked Leon for help, and Leon was able to find the information relatively easily. In return, Vylan offered to take Leon out for drinks.
Vylan convinced Roy to open it up with the right answer, and it opened up to reveal the jammer, along with a datapad, a blaster pistol, and a template for a quickdraw weapon, along with 250 credits. Vylan decided to take the box with him as he left, and disabled the jammer.
Bonus Force Point
+4 to Versha for handling negotiations well despite being in a tough spot and it not being her speciality; +1 to Layna for handling the battle and computer slicing quite well, including spying on someone who may or may not be an ally.
Warrick informed the group that their next task was to stop a Zedron droid which seemed to be being controlled by a human brain. After having some fun with the airlocks resulting in (almost) all of the Zedron inside suffocating to death, the group went inside, only to turn around and come limping out after having been ambushed with a flamethrower and grenades and with two of the party unconscious.
Meanwhile Krastio was having issues with the computer with several red messages flashing on the screen. Layna looked around to see if there were any cables that could be cut. It took a couple of attempts but she found the right one.
Versha was outside waiting for the food delivery, and was surprised to see Marnhull bringing it and learning that the people in the cantina had managed to get away safely. They exchanged pleasantries and Versha left Natalia to deal with the aftermath.
Warrick alerted the group to more Zedron breaking in to reach disruptor rifles while a droid was active in the manufacturing section. R'kikki enthusiastically volunteered to help with the droid. She managed to access the airlock, taking the air out of the airlock and suffocating the Zedron inside. Someone knocked on the door, begging to be let out. On Vylan's instructions, R'kikki did as bid. The more talkative of the two Zedron warned them about the droid, saying that it had a real human brain inside. The other seemed to be wanting to warn the others so Vylan elected to suffocate him. Versha tried to stop them, but Za killed him with a well-aimed shot. Vylan decided to use the airlocks in the rest of the facility to remove as many of the Zedron as possible. They opened the doors and then destroyed the terminal behind them to stop anyone else doing the same to them.
Bonus Force Point
+3 to Za for using the fire repression system and saving the lives of both R'kikki and Layna, and for healing those two same party members with the Healing Boluses; +2 to Vylan for using a cool, strategic head on the battlefield, being reasonable during a tense moment, using the Force to save others, excellent roleplay, and some great rolls to boot.
R'kikki and Za worked on augmenting the Zedron's bomb, making it much less powerful so that it wouldn't destroy half the city and cannibalising a nearby computer to make a timer for it. The remainder of the explosive material was safely disposed of.
Better prepared than last time, the group returned to the corridor to take out their opponents.
Vylan tried to work out the locations of their opponents through the wall and then the group started to head back inside with Marnhull carrying the bomb. Za pointed out some vents and R'kikki closed them, reaching them by climbing up Marnhull. When they reached the door, R'kikki unlocked it and Vylan flung the bomb into the room.
The bomb detonated with a shaking fury. The walls held, but it felt like an earthquake and the door bent as Marnhull pressed himself against it.
Inside was destruction with much of the room taken out. Several walkers had been taken out, along with most of the indivual fighters. The droid with the brain had been shielded and was initially stationary inside but soon came back to life. Vylan flung it into several walkers at the back of the room.
Bonus Force Point
+2 to R'kikki for bomb shenanigans and planning for the next battle, with the bomb being the turning point of the session, bombs rule the world; +1 to Vylan for R'kkiki paying a tithe to Vylan, wink wink, nudge nudge.
Inside the facility was carnage and the group explored it. They came face to face with Team Alpha who were paving the way for Glykeria Demir, and she arrived a moment later and freed Coilean Roxis who took the group prisoner and knocked them out.
When the droid was down on the ground it didn't try to get up. R'kikki tried to converse with it, asking if it would continue to attack them. When it couldn't respond, she shot it.
R'kikki got to work examining the droid, trying to determine if the organic side or the mechanical side had control over the body. Unable to carry anything else, she got to work dismantling it to learn how it worked, and then wiped the memory on the rest of it. Meanwhile Layna examined one of the nearby computers, learning about Projects Chimera, Obsidian and Last Light. They all seemed to be related to military usage. Project Chimera seemed to be relating to the droid that had just been destroyed but it described the synthetic parts overriding the organic parts. Project Obsidian was in an unknown language and Project Last Light looked like it had have been overwritten several times to deliberately obscure it. Layna collected what she could, taking Projects Obsidian, Last Light, and something relating to vibroweapons. Layna wasn't able to access the other computer in the room. Meanwhile Versha checked the brain - it was human and had been heavily modified to connect to the droid, and it had likely been an imperfect process. It didn't seem to be more than a couple of weeks out of a body but did seem to be an adult brain. Versha took a DNA sample of the droid, just in case. Za checked the room, finding 300 credits worth of tools.
Vylan contacted the other team. Aside from Begam's rifle, they had had no injuries and Warrick suggested that the group stayed low for a while. Agreeing, Vylan destroyed all the computers in the room with his lightsaber, along with half the wall. Marnhull found a flammable canister and suggested using it on the droid and Vylan cheerfully ignited it with his lightsaber.
Renata chose that moment to contact the group, saying that she knew the place that the key accessed but she didn't know what the place was, the whole area being blacked out. She added that the other group would likely be told to head there shortly, and that unless they trusted them, the group should try to get ahead of them. Marnhull wanted to be paid for his help but the group hadn't been paid yet. R'kikki offered the spice she had picked up. Marnhull refused and agreed to exchange communication details with the group instead.
The group headed northwards under Renata's instructions, their surroundings starting to look abandoned. They eventually reached a strange storage facility to the north with Renata waiting outside. The place appeared to be poorly maintained, but that seemed to be by design. Renata explained that she had visited the place in the past but had been locked out of the computer system. Alarms would go off as soon as the key was used so the group only had one attempt. The computer seemed to be military grade for both the Republic and Sith but Layna unlocked it with ease. Inside seemed to be deserted with corpses of special forces for Republic commandos and Sith death troopers. Versha couldn't determine an immediate cause of death but guns seemed to have been involved. Za checked the bodies but all of them seemed to have been searched already. He noted that blasters did not seem to have pierced any of the armour.
Finding a key card near the door, Versha passed it to Layna to open, while Renata wondered why, if the place had been broken into previously, were the doors locked. Versha jammed a chair into the open doorway behind them just to be safe. She and Versha managed to disable the laser gate on the other side suspiciously easily. Layna found the control room where the screen seemed to be broken only displaying the words 'you know what you did'. Inside, it didn't looked like the troops had been shooting at each other, which suggested that their targets had been a third party. Za managed to remove the armour from one of the soldiers, seeing a look of panic etched into his features.
Layna opened up a room labelled the 'Observation Room' which contained several consoles and turrets inside, along with several strange capsules. Several group members felt that they were being watched, and Team Alpha appeared, telling them that they had fallen for their trap and calling Renata a rat. R'kikki tried to give Mailys a warning but there seemed to be some jamming in the room. He told them to step back from the capsules and to give the entourage some space.
Coilean admitted that it was both Republic and Empire that had locked him away for 40 years but he announced the birth of a new order in the galaxy and that the time of the Republic and the Empire was over.
Bonus Force Point
+3 to Everyone due to everyone having a major part in this plot point, everybody contributed extremely well and spotlighted incredibly well too, incredible reactions to the big reveal the BBEG did with everyone; +2 to Vylan for utilizing Force Powers to enhance the RP, excellent presence in RP, the last speech Vylan gave to Rein
They managed to escape, thanks to a mechanist who showed them where the exit was, and they found themselves in a forest where they were picked up a few minutes later by a Republican ship.
Meanwhile Versha tried and failed to revive R'kikki and called for help. When none came and when a loud growl came from the ceiling, she threw a shoe at the ceiling and tried to call for help again. Whatever was in the ceiling crawled over to Vylan and he caught sight of it through another crack in the ceiling.
R'kikki came across a huge creature in one of the rooms elsewhere in the train, along with several people trying to control the train after the damage that Vylan had caused. The train was sliding to a halt. Finding a machine, R'kikki tried tampering with it, and succeeded in lowering the laser gates around the cells. Something happened to the machine and R'kikki found her physical body channelling a lot of electricity.
With the gates down, the group rushed to R'kikki's cell to help her as a loud growl echoed down the corridor. A body fell from the ceiling and Za managed to find a keycard on it, allowing the group to escape. They came across a droid who tried to stop them but Layna quickly took it out. They barricaded themselves in a room but let a mechanist in as he ran past. He said that he knew a way out and Versha held him at gunpoint as he opened the hatch.
Outside was a lot of greenery and the track was a long way above the ground. The mechanist explained that they needed to find a ladder to get down. The mechanist explained that they were on Nal Koska and there was a settlement 25 miles north east. Fortunately it wasn't needed; a Republican ship arrived and a man called August stepped out, telling them that he was there to rescue them.
Bonus Force Point
+3 to Vylan for being the catalyst for the escape, almost broke out of prison singlehandedly, did a great job at roleplaying, added a cool factor to the events that played out; +2 to R'kikki for sticking to the character despite being detrimental and being well principled and true to the character, did a great job at roleplaying.
Marnhull was the first to greet them on board, explaining that he was not allowed to say their benefactor's name as the person was a man of fear. He gave them a tour of the ship as he led the way, explaining that they had been on the train for nine days. He dropped them off outside a door at the front of the ship.
Versha went to visit the mechanist. August was still working on him but he didn't sound optimistic about his chances but requested assistance to help repair a medical droid that might help him. He wondered why Versha wanted to help the mechanist.
Vylan went to the mess hall in search of alcohol, with R'kikki close behind, and they met up with Layna and Za, with Marnhull joining shortly afterwards. R'kikki was watching Marnhull intently as he used one of the food dispensers. When Versha finally arrived, R'kikki asked her to take over watching Marnhull and Versha mentioned the medical droid to R'kikki who promptly left in search of the medical bay. Vylan left shortly afterwards, looking less than steady, and Versha followed in search of him.
August explained the task to R'kikki, adding that their previous mechanic was a Rodian who had been dealt with for stealing parts. R'kikki asked a few questions and then left to fetch some parts. Upon returning, she noticed something interesting about the behavioural module and put it to one side to examine it later while she went off to repair other parts of the ship.
Marnhull caught up with Layna who was training, commenting that it was odd that Spiro never seemed to get more than three hours of sleep, and Vylan got the news that Donk was being returned to the ship. Vimal and Leon dropped him off.
An announcement from Spiro summoned everyone to the bridge.
After questioning the others on the ship, Za came to the conclusion that Vimal was likely an impostor. He killed him in a single shot, then Vylan and Layna took the body to the airlock before it could detonate.
Their talk was brief, with Spiro expressing appreciation that Za's intentions were clear, aligned with Soraia, and then Layna was the third in. Spiro expressed concern that his contacts had been infiltrated and that he trusted each of the five in the group but few others.
R'kikki pressed him for an update on his assistance with her clan. Spiro admitted that he was once Roxas' mentor in the Republican SIS and that his Force abilities were a recent manifestation - he had had none when Spiro had imprisoned him. R'kikki asked him to tell Kivo that she was alright.
Versha wanted an update on Jinn but Spiro had little on him, and he expressed concern that Versha would leave if she found Jinn. Versha pointed out that he had reason to keep data from her. Although Spiro denied it, he made it very clear that he didn't trust her, insisting that she signed a contract with him.
None of the group seemed willing to sign anything. After a lot of arguing, Spiro agreed to drop the contract entirely, offering:
Afterwards, Spiro brought them up to speed, explaining that he thought Vimal was a doppelganger, and thought that Leon could be too. He wanted to come up with a plan to see if any of them were untrustworthy, feeding them false information and seeing if any of it was broadcast outside the ship. R'kikki could monitor the communications systems.
Versha wondered what should they do if they ever suspect that Spiro had been replaced by a doppelganger. Spiro replied that they should ask him about Malachor II. He would reply: I remember the four days and the five nights; they were transcendent.
They discussed what false information to feed the others. Vimal should be asked what his favourite game was, with the expected answer of pazaak. Marnhull would be told that they would be moved to a B7 Freighter. He would be expected to ask about the weaponry and would likely ask about space for the crew. There were nearby spaceports at Ylesia and Teth that she could say they were heading towards. They were currently near C35539X in Hutt space. Za was to ask Vimal to contact Stelia Sterns. Leon was deemed unlikely to have been a doppelganger before Roxas had escaped so Vylan's task was to compare the Leon on the ship to the Leon that he remembered from Nar Shaddaa, and tell him about the local ports. Spiro also mentioned that doppelgangers were known to be rigged with explosives.
When they were ready, Spiro summoned the others to the bridge and brought them up to speed with the plans that they had decided to feed them. Vylan caught up with Leon but Leon seemed a lot like himself. Layna questioned Marnhull and he gave similarly expected answers. It was when he was questioning Vimal that Za was suspicious and he shot the Vimal doppelganger in the head, killing him with a single shot. The skin started to melt away, revealing explosives underneath. Layna carried the body to an airlock, quickly checking the pockets, and Vylan used the Force to push it away from the ship just before it exploded.
Reporting to Spiro, he told them that they were heading to Kessel next and suggested that they all get some rest.
Bonus Force Point
+4 to Za for being a complete, unapologetic badass who delivered a rather memorable one-liner, as any good action hero would 😎; +1 to R'kikki for coming up with significant elements of the plan, great RP.
August asked Versha to get hold of a biometric scanner from Kessel when they arrived. The Hydroban XLRIM-2 was adapted to detecting cybernetics and he thought it might help but the mechanist was looking better than he had done before. She also tested the DNA sample that she had picked up from the brain droid. August promised to update her when he had information.
Za went to check out the training room and was joined by Marnhull. They discussed Madhukar Kariuki who had been Za's mentor and had taught him everything him knew about sniping and other such skills. Marnhull talked about his own mentor on a backwater planet.
With Kessel coming into sight, the group were summoned to the bridge. Spiro asked them to hold off any personal business for the moment. He had five dossiers for people to investigate, either to check that they weren't doppelgangers or to check that their skill sets were as expected. Marnhull was going to be the security side and Leon was going to be looking at logistics. They would need a pilot, a technician, a gunner, a mechanic and coordinator. He had a few lined up:
A shuttle landed in the starboard bay and a large number of people disembarked. Marnhull gave Versha a gesture that she didn't understand as she passed on the way to the canteen.
Bonus Force Point
+5 to Za - We all appreciated the impassioned speech regarding the benevolent and effulgent Master Kariuki, and otherwise keeping all at peace, somehow, someway
Layna took Gedera to the engine room and he seemed fascinated by it, although was less than impressed by R'kikki's repairs.
Versha asked Koyara about her past experiences and gave her the task of "fixing" one of the food machines. Koyara set to work, noting that one of the couplings was wearing out but was unable to find an actual issue with the machine. At Versha's request she added an option to make the food less spicy.
Vylan asked Traitha about her background. She admitted that she was very blunt and the two discussed discipline. She explained that she had gassed two deserters who had been exploring a Czerka facility, and the two talked about alcohol around the galaxy.
Bonus Force Point
+5 to Za - We all appreciated the impassioned speech regarding the benevolent and effulgent Master Kariuki, and otherwise keeping all at peace, somehow, someway. (Hold over from Last Game).
Beware the adoration of the white rose,
Borne of sigils dressed in bleakest black,
Adhering to the fateful moon transposed,
A serpent climbs the tallest of cyprus, oaks,
Lain down upon a sacred promise made,
Venin upon neck, cold whispers 'pon the grave.
Koyara ended up being badly affected by Spiro's signal. Versha quickly knocked her out and Vylan helped carry her over to the medbay. August confirmed that she was a doppelganger and Vylan hurried her to the airlock as Versha tried to evacuate the interviewees. Before they could get far, several figures unstealthed themselves around the ship. The people on the ship fought back, with several getting badly injured until Spiro activated the ship's turrets which took out most of the assailants and left the rest similarly badly injured. The group managed to finish them off and Vylan threw the body out of the airlock.
The injured were taken to the med bay to recover and the group had 48 hours to recover. The surviving interviewees were hired and Spiro announced that they were still looking for a technician.
Bonus Force Point
+1 to Pleku for going for the joints; +1 to Vylan for doing what was critical to the defense of the ship; +1 to Za for confronting the suspect, if perhaps a bit aggressively; +1 to R'kikki sacrificed herself to help secure the Bridge and protect Spiro; +1 to Versha for performing her role as medic well and helping people while they were down.
Spiro summoned them all to the bridge to tell them that Leon had disappeared during the firefight. He had been tracking him but his communicator signal had been spoofed and he had been unable to find him. He suspected Roxas due to the complexity of the signal that would have been required. He had some ideas where to start looking for Leon on Kessel:
Versha, Za and Spiro examined the maps, Spiro identifying several highly secure areas, a secret room underground and an experimental lab. Spiro had told her off for trying to copy the section of the map to her datapad, telling her that she wasn't allowed to connect to the console, despite Versha's protests that she wanted a map to take with them. She took a photo instead. Za checked out the cantina, with Spiro noting that it seemed far too upmarket.
The market only had one way in and out and was surprisingly small. There was a hall south of the market that didn't show properly on the map and displayed a warning when she tried to get more detail. Seven awnings were visible. Za checked out the droid factory, noting that it was most likely for the Zedron and that it was very large. Spiro said that he had access to Versha's datapad and could update it with a map remotely.
When the others arrived, Versha asked how much they would be authorised to pay, if it came to negotiate for Leon's release. Spiro said he wanted them to kill instead, including Leon if it looked like Leon might give away any information. Vylan stormed out.
Bonus Force Point
+2 to Layna for suggesting searching Leon's room; +1 to Versha for analyzing the map thoroughly and building towards an excellent plan and understanding of the target area, plus now she has a map; +1 to R'kikki for RPing their character extremely well, whether attempting to steal things or being gullible enough to snort a vape pen; +1 to Vylan for roleplaying excellently at the end of the session, stirred the pot with some good old drama
On the ground were a lot of either refugees or deperate people. The group were approached by a woman who introduced herself as Camilla. She said that she was an unofficial official and demanded a fee from them. The group refused and she let them pass.
The market was spread out around a large triangular waterfall with carvings around the edges that drew R'kikki's attention.
Versha asked Za to hold her communication device as she brought her suspicions to Vylan's attention, the fact that Spiro didn't seem to have looked into any of the locations on the surface until she and Za had started, and that he wasn't willing to negotiate for Leon's release.
Za headed straight for a weapons trader to look at her wares. There were two customers who were pressing her for a shipment of blaster rifles. She told Za to come back later when she wasn't busy with another customer. Her body language indicated that she wanted Za to try to stop the customer who had a pistol. Layna joined in and the two quickly finished off one of the customers while Vylan persuaded the other one to stand down and to pay them all an inconvenience fee. When Vylan asked about durasteel cufflinks, the woman explained that she wasn't the stall owner and was only helping out Liz but she would be back soon.
A scholar called Dr Ashmir Rohan introduced himself to R'kikki when he noticed that she seemed interested in it. He explained that he was trying to date the fountain and he didn't recognise any of the languages around its base. He had been visiting it a lot and R'kikki asked if he had seen someone with Leon's description in the area but he hadn't seen anyone.
Versha went off in search of the medical scanner that August had requested. There was an older model available (RIM-3) for 8,000 credits but he thought he might be able to get the actual one in for 18,000 credits.
Vylan examined the fountain and realised that it seemed to be using the Force below the ground and the people involved were on the dark side.
When Liz arrived, Vylan asked her about durasteel cufflinks. Liz invited him beneath the awning, saying that it was really a bad time and that more people on the project wouldn't help and that the stew was already on fire. The kitchen had a big basin but no-one liked to do the washing, and she warned them to keep carry out food warm and fresh. She glanced up, drawing the others' gazes to a holocamera.
Spiro told Za to tell him that audio was being tracked and that the shopkeeper didn't want to attract attention. He thought that the writing on the fountain might have been what she was referring to with a 'menu' and he thought that there might be droids. He warned Za to not tell the rest of the team in case it was picked up, and told him to blink twice if he wanted him to relay the information to the rest of the team.
The group went to examine the fountain. Layna noted that the light was reflecting strangely from it and that it looked a lot deeper than it should be. Za noticed a symbol that looked similar to a fish, another that looks like a bird, and another that looked like a cross between a crustacean and a mollusc on each tier.
They rotated the fountain to get the symbols to line up. As they did, every droid and person in the vicinity started to leave calmly and methodically. Layna lined up with them and tried to follow them but the door slammed and locked shut behind them just as she got to the door. The fountain started to empty revealing the symbol of an eye on the surface, a symbol Za recognised as being heretical and forbidden within the Order of Soraia. One of the nearby doors unlocked.
Inside were a large number of people around a table, including Odilo Sokolov, Anthelm Felar, Thrumrysk Sul, Telman Kagara, various Gadra pirates, Czerka guards and an Ortaius Stygian matriarch who had long been presumed dead. Vylan persuaded the matriarch to let Leon go - he appeared to be working in the spice mines - in exchange for saying nothing of what they had seen there.
Bonus Force Point (Due to Tie, +1 Morale Bonus to All Rolls Instead):
+2 to R'kikki for being brilliant with the spirit, finding a way to keep all of the party's memories, cleverness; +2 to Versha for leading intrigue into Spiro, setting up a side plot for later; +1 to Vylan for contributing to the fist fight and handling the confrontation with the Matriarch.
Layna was spending time training by herself and was approached by Marnhull who also tried to get her to open up. He tried to convince her that they had no control over her and that she should have some faith in herself, adding that they had to have limits. He said she only had two options - to ignore the problem or to do something about it. He offered to spar with her, and Layna accepted, agreeing not to hold back. Marnhull wasn't used to fighting unarmed and was quickly overpowered by Layna.
Za headed off to find Spiro. He found him working on 18 different datapads employed in a variety of uses and explained that he wanted to return to Nar Shaddaa. Spiro seemed agreeable after the 48 hour period and added that it might tie into something else. Spiro asked him to ask R'kikki to visit, adding that he was aware that the group was more likely to trust each other than him. The two discussed the group's loyalties and motivations.
Traitha went to visit Versha to ask about her friend Granz's kath hound called Cobalt. He was old but had taken ill shortly before he had moved to Coruscant from Dantooine, which was around the same time a family ring had disappeared. Versha suggested that maybe it was worth looking at the kath hound's digestive system.
R'kikki also had a visitor in the form of Gedera who wanted to know what R'kikki had done to the engines so that he could undo it. Not wanting to be alone with him, R'kikki asked Za to join them and insisted that Gedera lead the way keeping her rifle pointed at him. August protested as she entered the medbay on the way to the engine room. After some persuasion from Vylan, he admitted that he might have touched some of R'kikki's work which had sped up the process. The two talked and came to an understanding about each other's work.
Upon arriving, they immediately found themselves in the middle of a firefight against the Ortaius Stygian and worked together to bring them down.
Za received a holocall from Brother Caelin Zaris. The message wasn't clear but seemed to be asking for help at the temple in Nar Shaddaa. Za ran straight to Spiro who summoned everyone to the bridge. Za explained the task and asked for volunteers, and Spiro gave everyone 3,000 credits for saving Leon. They had an hour before they arrived back on Nar Shaddaa so Versha ran off to the medbay to check up on the mechanist. There wasn't anything else that August needed but he encouraged her to keep an eye out for any medical equipment.
Upon arriving, Spiro announced that he couldn't identify any sign of a fight. Versha asked to see the 3D map but Spiro refused, firstly saying that he couldn't see inside the temple, and secondly that there wasn't time when Versha asked to look at the streets around it. Za decided to go in the back entrance.
Upon arriving, Za recognised the symbol of Mordrana upon the stone door. He put his ear to it and could hear gunfire, along with the sound of the Stygian. Za recited a mantra to open the door and pushed it opened cautiously, just as Vylan dropped a bottle down the stairs.
To the devoted of the sun; know her sanctuary is eternal as the rays of the sun.
On the other side was pandemonium with figures Za had thought dead from the Ortaius Stygian. Several enemies were very quickly taken out, while additional ones were summoned. Some of them were defeated in ways that none of the group had ever seen before, apparently in punishment for what they had done to the Force.
Brother Caelin explained that they had been attached from within. As the group set off for the inner sanctum, they heard noises from beyond the doors.
Bonus Force Point
+3 to Za for driving the RP and mission, excellent RP, for leading the team, asking people for help, for being knowledgeable of the enemy and the focal point, and doing a good job acting out the character; +2 to R'kikki for arguing with Spiro, sticking to her character, producing good roleplay, and sticking to character really well.
After checking up on the people around them, they checked out the other side of the courtyard and came across a priest trying to protect some children from a soldier. Za sensed something off about the priest and he shot him and the man transformed into another riteseeker. Za killed him with one shot.
The group was concerned that other refugees were being impersonated so went to check them out. R'kikki had a good feeling about the refugees so she suggested that someone try to detect anything else nearby instead. Vylan tried to sense others through the Force, unintentionally alerting someone who informed him that he would be killed.
Bonus Force Point
+3 to Layna for tanking some Force Lightning and doing great combat RP, and for helping the refugees and giving up a jetpack in the process, and being a smartass; +2 to Vylan for supporting the team in combat and excellent roleplay all around
The fight went badly for Vylan, the recipient of several nasty hits that Force shields were only so effective against, finally taking out both R'kikki and Vylan. Layna could only take so much and soon followed them as Versha tried to get a message out to the Kyrus.
As Za was about to be taken out too, he was visited by Soraia who offered him help in exchange for the group joining him in the sanctum. He agreed on behalf of everyone and the temple was flooded with light, some of the riteseekers bursting into flame and dying instantly and the rest desperately trying to complete the ritual.
With the group mostly recovered, they made short work of the rest of the enemies, with Za finishing him off as Layna held him in place and Vylan Force choked him.
With the battle over, Versha turned to Timar, doing her best to bring him back. It wasn't enough though, and he was able to impart a few words to Za, telling him that he thought the person who had summoned him to the temple was in trouble in the library and that Za was now a Partisan not a Bannerman, before he died.
Bonus Force Point
+3 to Versha for staying true to character, going out of her way to save people and putting herself in harms way, making good tactical decisions regarding medicine and being the team medic; +2 to Vylan for being clutch, helping Versha save Ardalion, excellent roleplay, great battle decisions, helped out everyone in various circumstances, particularly helped R'kikki. (Numerous honorable mentions to Za).
Inside, Za had a bad feeling. There was a holocron further inside, along with another door. Both R'kikki and Vylan tried to open it, R'kikki with the handle and Vylan with the lightsaber. Both felt Force energy fighting back in response. A glowing purple rune appeared on Vylan's forehead and he felt very unwell. R'kikki persisted with the door and was similarly affected. Versha tried to help both of them but it took Za identifying several Stygion runes and destroying them with Vylan's help before they could recover.
Inside were several more enemies but the group quickly took them out. Two had been knocked unconscious and Versha protested at Vylan killing them but Vylan ignored her and killed them both. Za found Brother Caelin unconscious on the far side of the room and Versha quickly set to work trying to patch him up.
There was an object in the corner of the room and as Layna touched it, she started chanting and Za recognised the object as belonging to the Stygion. It soon passed and Za asked the group to hurry so that Soraia would give them gifts.
It was the Inner Santum where they heard Soraia's voice. She explained that she was going to test Za, asking him to identify the cup she drank from. Za ignored them all and used his hands to drink from the fountain instead. Soraia told the others to drink too, although none of them wanted to. She told Vylan that she had given Vylan his life back, and she could take it back at any point.
Versha was backing towards the door and then left as soon as Vylan started moving in the same direction. As soon as they crossed the threshold, their wounds from the battle instantly returned. Layna was reluctant to join them after having passed out in the battle, and drank from the fountain. Soraia praised her but Layna walked out. Meanwhile, R'kikki broke down and Soraia tried to calm her.
Vylan tried to get back in to get to R'kikki and Versha tried to knock her out but Soraia forced R'kikki to choose. Making up her mind, R'kikki also left, passing out as she reached the door. Soraia thanked Za for his faith and said that she hoped his companions would one day understand and that she only did what she had to.
Za retreated inside the temple with Caelin to give him the news of Timar and to explain that Caelin was to take his place, as the others took the shuttle back to the Kyrus where Spiro offered 4,000 credits each as hazard pay.
Back on board, Spiro updated the group with recent events, explaining that they needed to do some information gather. He suggested a few locations where they could make some contacts in cantinas in Nar Shaddaa, near House Iteri. Telman Kagara was a known contact of Dreschler so if they could find him, perhaps he would lead them to her.
Bonus Force Point
+1 to Za for leading the party, having great character moments and RP, helped save other party members from an unholy curse; +1 to Versha for great RP, for bitch-slapping Vy with the "murder is bad" line and physically trying to intervene, excellent dedication to her character; +1 to Layna for being put in an extremely difficult decision and handling it really well, with in-depth player analysis playing a major role in decision making, and for great RP; +1 to Vylan for sticking to his true self despite pressure from the difficult situation, great RP, great combat; +1 to R'kikki for RPing extremely well and navigating a difficult situation while being very true to character, navigating excellent character dynamics while doing so.
Achard dropped by R'kikki and Vylan in their room to check up on them where they were drinking Corellian whiskey. Vylan got steadily drunker and drunker.
Za was visited by Xiir'dar and he explained what had happened on Nar Shaddaa. Za compared Soraia to a mother who punished her children. Xiir'dar seemed to understand and Za admitted that he cared about what people thought of him. He warned Za that there was one among the group who had grown extremely wary of him.
Versha went to visit the medbay where the mechanist was finally awake and she introduced herself to him. While she was there, she went to check out the results of the sample in the lab from the brain droid, learning that it had been human. Nanites had been used to adjust parts of the human brain and expand its synapses and to allow mechanics to be connected. It had come from someone called Arwin Fortuna - he had gone missing two months before the attack but August wasn't sure as to how he ended up on Nar Shaddaa. He was a resident of a decent area of Nar Shaddaa and a decent pazaak player and noted as being smart and well off. Spiro thought the brain would be susceptible to ion damage, and that the casing would be damaged by lightning and fire. Spiro also gave her an explanation of the Sith and the Jedi.
Layna also went to visit Leon to look for neutronium. His supplier was currently in jail so it was going to cost her to get him out. After that she returned to her room to get drunk as R'kikki visited. R'kikki admired Layna's armour and Layna told her not to touch it as she passed out.
Marnhull visited Versha and the two talked about Jedi. He suggested visiting Dantooine, Alderan, Naboo and Tython and gave her a galactic map of the planets.
R'kikki went to visit Za to ask him for his version of the events at the temple. He compared Soraia to a mother, explaining that sometimes she needed to be intimidating. R'kikki said it was weird that Soraia had tried to speak her own language and ask Za why he followed her. Za explained that she had taken care of him after he had been abandoned. He added that she wasn't a Force user but was very powerful. She was one of the faces of Mordrana that was spread around the galaxy. There was a fairytale world where only the higher ranked individuals could exist but Soraia was at Nar Shaddaa to help the sick and the wounded, and he added that he thought she wanted him and Layna to fight the Stygion. R'kikki was surprised by this because they were going to do that anyway and didn't need to be forced but she said she wasn't angry at Za, just confused. She asked Za to talk about himself instead. He told her about the Stygion saying that the Stygion control the Force. Sith are pure hatred but the Stygion are corruption.
The group were summoned to the bridge by Spiro who warned them to be cautious on Nar Shaddaa as there were a lot of impostors. He reminded them of their mission to find Dreschler so that they could try to track down Roxas to try to take him by surprise for once, and thought that there would be a contact who could prove useful at the Iteri Casino. Versha expressed concern about Spiro's confidence because he had been able to break through the blackout in the temple to send Marnhull down and there was a lot they didn't know about Zedron technologies. Spiro dismissed this, calling her a farm girl, which Vylan was understandably upset by.
The group headed back to the surface where they were greeted by an Aezerian League officer who tried to convince the group to pay a fee of 500 credits for landing. Vylan immediately saw through him and persuaded him to drop it, along with convincing him to pay the group for the inconvenience. The group passed through a security checkpoint where they were checked for illegal substances. R'kikki managed to hide her spice on a nearby guard and Vylan convinced the guard that his lightsaber was a personal item. Everything went fine until R'kikki tried to retrieve the spice and was made to throw it over the ledge.
Outside the group were immediately ambushed by Zedron who attacked both them and civilians in the marketplace outside.
Bonus Force Point
+3 to Vylan for excellent posh Vylan roleplay, as well as references to House Rist, and good RP in general; +1.5 to R'kikki for trying to have her hand at smo0gling, for playing the risks and somehow still being alive (somehow); +0.5 to Layna for an excellent performance in the combat and great roleplay during combat.
Inside there were a lot of people, including Mailys in a corner. Vylan headed straight over to the bar and quickly passed out as Za contacted Spiro to get a description of their contact. R'kikki quickly got talking to a hooded lady next to the dance floor who seemed overly friendly.
Layna and Za approached Skete. Layna offered him information for information, pulling out the Vimal impostor's datapad. He hadn't heard of any plans regarding the Exchange, which surprised him because they weren't usually very quiet. He thought they might be smuggling arms in large numbers at the moment, along with a lot of trafficking. Some people in black cloaks had also been visiting the headquarters recently. The conversation was cut short when a pair of Exchange bounty hunters approached them and Layna tried to make her way to the bar.
Versha ran over to check on Vylan after he fell to the ground after drinking only his second glass.
Meanwhile R'kikki was approached by Crius Iteri who challenged her to a game of Sabacc. Despite having never played before, R'kikki managed to win through a combination of studying the machinery, playing non-standard moves and sheer luck. Crius reluctantly passed over a credit chit after he lost and R'kikki was approached by a couple of guards who demanded that she hand it over. To R'kikki's surprise, Dzana approached the guards and made them hand it back to her.
Layna was approached by an unpleasant individual and escaped to the dance floor. When he followed her she used her stunning gauntlets on him, although missed and fell over. She managed to pass it off as breakdancing. Then fell over again.
Za managed to continue the conversation with Skete discreetly, asking him for where the warehouses were located. Skete gave him the coordinates and went on to explain the security. There were lots of scanners but he thought that a droid could get in with the right transponder code. He also added that someone small could get in via the airducts to a cantina that Kagara liked to hang out at. He warned about autoturrets and security doors. He thought Dreschler might be getting some outside help for encryption of her messages because he didn't know anyone in the Exchange who could do it like that.
A trandoshan started to leave, flanked by a couple of guards, and a Felar Grand Union representative started preaching nearby. Nearby was a man apparently called Sciacchitano and a masked woman was nearby called Belmont and was talking a lot about a group that sounded like the Stygion. They sounded like they were part of the Qadara Mercenary Guild.
Spiro contacted Za and encouraged them to stay put for the moment as there were still Zedron around.
Bonus Force Point
+2 to R'kikki for doing excellent RP in the Sabacc game and for her interaction with Dzana; +1.5 to Layna for the "bullshit she was doing on that dance floor" as well as information gathering; +1.5 to Za for handling the interaction with Skete well and innovating a solution to a problem.
Vylan decided to step down as leader so Layna volunteered, deciding that their next move should be to investigate a nearby warehouse based on the information they had discovered.
R'kikki didn't do so well at her second game of sabacc with Dzana. She suspected that she was cheating. She conceded defeat but thought she saw a cloud of black mist around Dzana that disappeared almost immediately. Dzana asked if she could meet R'kikki's friends so R'kikki wanted to check who she was with Spiro. Spiro had no idea who she was but thought she might be related to the Stygion. R'kikki asked the bartender for a room. She explained her plan to Za, which was to gather everyone in a room and for Za to help take her out.
R'kikki kept her distracted as Za, Layna and Versha carried Vylan out to the private room and waited for R'kikki to bring Dzana to the room.
Vylan woke up in the room's bathroom and R'kikki and Versha quickly ran to help him, leaving Layna to talk to Dzana. She explained that she was looking for mercenaries on behalf of a benefactor and was offering good rewards and pay. She also expressed surprise that Layna had touched the box. At Spiro's insistence, Za shot her. The bullet passed through her and she collapsed to the ground. A plume of black smoke rose from her body and disappeared out of the room. Za recognised that as evidence that she was possessed by the Stygion.
Spiro warned them that they had a matter of minutes to get out of there. R'kikki tried to operate the waste disposal as Vylan staggered into a couple of the corridor telling them to avoid that area because he had just been sick. Coincidentally the man in the couple was the same one Layna had met earlier. Versha quickly tried to cover the wound with her jumper as Vylan threw up on the man, and the couple ran off.
R'kikki managed to get the waste disposal working, and Za tossed the body down it, including Versha's jumper just as one of the Iteri guards arrived. Vylan tried to explain that the gunshot had been his and he had dropped his blaster. The guard accepted the explanation and demanded credits for cleaning, to which R'kikki handed over a portion of her winnings.
Spiro updated Vylan on the situation, explaining that they had identified a few places where Dreschler could be and their ways in.
Vylan told Spiro that he wasn't going to continue as leader. Versha persuaded the others to turn their communicators off so they could have a more open conversation and the others explained their reasons for sticking with Spiro. Eventually Layna volunteered to be the new leader, and decided to visit the warehouse as they had the advantage there. The only issue would be to find a way past the lifeform scanners. Fortunately there was a market nearby. Layna volunteered to look to the north, Versha in the south.
Bonus Force Point
+3 to Layna for becoming the next leader the team through organic RP and decisiveness, not to mention excellent RP, as well as making Vylan's morale and self-esteem plummet (vicious mockery energy); +1 to Za for his RP being of excellent quality and helping to move the story along, engaged actively in information gathering, handled the mission well, still ended up being considered for leadership despite having "betrayed" (anti-Soraian propaganda) everyone in the party; +1 to Vylan for carrying the drama by doubting his own leadership for an entire scene, and engaging in excellent RP.
Left to explore by themselves, R'kikki and Vylan went to the north side of the market, with one tent cordoned off for the people who had been injured in the previous battle with the Zedron. As Vylan headed off to one of the stalls, R'kikki went to look inside the tent, finding a jewellery box containing a large gemstone. Meanwhile Vylan commiserated with the stallholder over lost alcohol. Vylan flirted with the stallholder who introduced herself as Naomi and admitted that she didn't have what he needed but that there was a Rodian in the other market who likely did. She warned him to not talk about banthas, jumajus or womprats.
The other half of the group passed a fountain with a droid-like figure wearing a large hat behind it. Za tried to interact with it but had to give up. Further along was a Rodian and a mechanic. The Rodian started screaming at Versha as soon as she mentioned that she was from an Outer Rim planet and the mechanic refused to help Versha as soon as she mentioned the Rodian being unable to help her. While Layna managed to find something that might be suitable, it was too expensive.
Vylan and R'kikki arrived. Vylan kept the Rodian distracted with alcohol while R'kikki used her stealth field and rummaged through his wares. When the Rodian passed out, R'kikki gave up on stealth and extracted the jammer from the depths of his stall while Layna and Za kept watch, and with Vylan leaving him a pittance. As they finished, Spiro contacted them with the location of the warehouse.
He told them about the warehouse. There were two entrances and the speeders were to the right side of the warehouse. There was a guard close to the door with another further back and a zabrak in the middle of the room with three droids. On the other side of the warehouse, there were several droids and a human. He gave control of the warehouse's droids to R'kikki.
There was a short fight involving some big explosions but the group were able to climb into the speeder to wait for it to depart.
Bonus Force Point
+3 to R'kikki for blowing stuff up and not giving two shits about blowing everyone else up, sticking to character despite it potentially detrimenting herself or getting her killed, she is also "balls to the wall, let's fuckin' do this" according to Vylan, and Kai says "MVP;" +2 to Vylan for dealing with the Rodian (the solution is always booze), did an excellent job focusing on the mission at hand and dealing with it effectively.
They were loaded onto the transport and Spiro told them to be quiet, informing them that the route wasn't the one that had originally planned. He told them that they would have an opportunity to jump out of the crates and fight the guards but they were going to be separated if they were to stay put. Layna asked if there would be a good meeting point for them and Spiro was able to identify a central room for them.
Bonus Force Point
+3 to Vylan for single-handedly taking on two rooms of baddies, handling a lot of bad situations while thinking on their feet rather well, committed to combat RP really well; +2 to Za for the Nat 20 at the back of the head right off the bat, one taps for days, excellent niche in terms of both combat and RP.
Versha and Vylan were approached by two Exchange guards. They quickly took out one of them and disarmed the second. With her gun to his head, Versha told the guard to tell the people approaching the other door to make them go away. With the least convincing argument, the other guards did indeed leave and the guard said that he should go into acting. He called himself Mirando, and added that his friend who had been knocked out was called Cassius. Spiro suggested that they look at some of the computers in the next room and they went to investigate, finding building schematics. There was also a description of an upcoming meeting with shareholders in one of the rooms to the east. Using a keycard Vylan had found, Versha disabled as many of the turrets as she could, and then she and Vylan put some distance between them and the guards for their own protection, heading over to meet up with Layna.
Za finished off his attacker, making his way to the door and finding it was locked from the outside. He attempted to bypass it but it unlocked without him doing anything. There were some other guards outside and Za was able to sneak past them. He walked past two turrets that Spiro noted that he hadn't disabled.
Layna kept dressing in the guard's armour. She asked Spiro where they should meet and he explained that most of the group would now be unable to reach it. The best he could offer was for everyone to get to a corridor and for everyone to enter it at the same time.
Minus R'kikki, the rest of the group met up on opposite sides of the corridor ready to continue.
Bonus Force Point
Honorary Force Point - Awarded to R'kikki. RIP.
+3 to Versha for sparing Mirando and Cassius, as well as taking up the role of getting into computer systems and contributing to the group dynamic in an unconventional way in R'kikki's absence, great RP, stuck true to her character; +2 to Za for sneaking past the enemy and turning off the lights, utilizing clever tactics and strategy.
The group were joined by allies in the form of Zadirra and Marnhull. After defeating Drescher, Vylan neatly dismembering her and dividing her into small parts, Zadirra was persuaded to join the rest of the group.
Zaneta Dreschler was seated on the other side and looked confused as she caught sight of the group. Despite Layna's disguise and Versha hiding well out of sight, she could see all of them and recognised them all. Vylan tried to bargain with her but Dreschler said she didn't see a use for their abilities and to convince her. Vylan agreed, explaining that they were working for Gurkha the Hutt. Dreschler wasn't convinced, accusing them of being dogs of the SIS.
When Vylan wouldn't sway, Dreschler dropped R'kikki's body in front of them, spurring Vylan into action and Versha to dive for her body. A fight ensured, Vylan giving in to his rage.
In a different room, Zadirra was approached by Marnhull who demanded that she open the door. She quickly told the turrets to target anything from the Exchange before letting Marnhull in.
In the other room, one turret immediately destroyed another and in an unrelated action, Dreschler's pistol misfired, emptying itself into R'kikki's body. Marnhull and Zadirra entered the fight soon after, taking on Dreschler and dealing a lot of damage. When it looked like she was on the verge of giving up, she straightened up, glowing, as though renewed by the Force. The group kept up their attacks, Layna ultimately kicking her towards Vylan where she fell upon Vylan's lightsaber. Vylan hacked her to pieces.
Afterwards Za found a wall safe, finding a datapad, a quick draw weapon template, an Echani general template and a bronzium cast armour template inside after disabling the traps.
They were contacted by Spiro who told the group that the console had been destroyed and the only person with access to the data was the newcomer. He said to bring Zadirra with them when they returned. Zadirra asked for information about Spiro, eventually agreeing and returning to the shuttle with the rest of the group.
Bonus Force Points:
+3 to Vylan for their actions in combat, embracing the consequences of the actions they performed, as well as excellent roleplay, sticking to her character very well, did their best in spite of the rolls not necessarily adding up; +1 to Layna for getting in some great punches and handling combat extremely well; +1 to Versha for sticking to her character to an excellent degree, roleplaying how they would respond even if it were detrimental or otherwise impractical.
Then the group were largely left to themselves. Most looked into equipment upgrades. Vylan had taken R'kikki to the medical bay and Layna went through her personal effects. Leon coaxed him out of the room to practise shooting. Zadirra worked on getting the data from the datapads she had been given.
At the bridge, Spiro was watching the holotable and told the others to come and have a look. It was security footage showing people being killed in various ways - people being gassed, throats being slit. A total of 17 people had been killed and each of them had had extensive security and the murders seemed to have been carried out by professionals, likely from oraganisations like Hutts and Czerka, judging by the uniforms. Spiro thought that the group was indirectly responsible because the timing was too much of a coincidence. He wondered if the people responsible for killing R'kikki had been supposed to kill Dreschler instead. Spiro admitted that R'kikki had been killed by Exchange assassins and told Zadirra that he needed the information she had and offered he anything she wanted for it. He also wanted her to join the rest of the group. Zadirra negotiated a deal for herself, introducing herself as Zee. Spiro explained that he believed that Roxas wanted to destablise Nar Shaddaa but wasn't sure why and offered the group 5000 credits in hazard pay.
Zadirra, Layna and Za went to the medical bay. August showed them R'kikki's body and Layna started to go through her belongings. Layna also asked August for new equipment.
Versha went to her room and barricaded the door and Za went to his to reminisce about R'kikki.
Layna went to visit Vylan to give him the credits from Spiro. Vylan didn't answer the door. Leon came to visit a couple of hours later, telling Vylan how worried he was about him. They talked for a while (mostly about alcohol, Vylan not wanting to open up) and then went off to the ship's target range. Leon was carrying his brother's pistol and admitted that he hadn't fired it, saving that for a special occasion. They kept up at the target dummies until Vylan managed to slice one in half with his lightsaber. The two quickly left to get drunk, leaving the mess for someone else to clean up.
Marnhull went to check up on Versha, who refused to open the door, and Xiir'dar went to talk to Za, who was a lot more talkative.
A few hours later and Layna went to visit the medbay to get patched up.
Zadirra had finished with the datapads she had been given and went to visit Spiro. She had several unpublished news stories that had never made it to the holonet. She explained that the encryption wasn't standard for the Exchange and she was having trouble with some of it but had access to some of it. Apparently Dreschler had known about the group being sent to infiltrate and thought them under the command of SIS and had got that information from a third party, assuming him to be Roxas. A second data source suggested that Dreschler had been intending to take over from the third party. She noted that Dreschler seemed to be searching for someone called Xaria. Spiro informed Zadirra that everyone in the group was believed dead and asked if she needed a similar excuse.
In exchange, Zadirra wanted information on someone called Talleran Kitarn who had been last seen on Corellia, admitting that she thought that there was a good chance that he was dead. Spiro recognised the name from a few months back from Imperial intelligence and offered to look into it.
Vylan and Leon passed out unconscious in a corridor after getting very drunk.
The Mechanist finally gave himself a name, introducing himself as Node.
Vylan started to wake up from the alcohol, making sure that Leon made it to his bed before returning to his own.
After talking to Za, Zadirra went to visit the Mechanist. She offered to help him with his duties. After getting permission from Spiro to show her around, Zadirra asked him about what he remembered of being with the Zedron. He talked about Sudden Obsolecence and Zadirra compared them to a cult. He talked about Icarus Zedron, comparing his ideals to reaching ascension. He explained that they were all linked via cybernetics and used to know the people well. Zadirra asked about the name of Talleran and the Mechanist said that he had seen it. Zadirra asked for clarification about the Zedron organisation, thinking it a droids rights organisation. The Mechanist admitted that it was at the lower levels but that others were manipulated into the higher levels.
Zadirra helped decrypt the communications, storing them on her own datapad. They came from the Czerka Organisation and another from a Mandalorian Enclave that both seemed to be from the same source. Some sort of meeting seemed to be being organised after the events of Nar Shaddaa.
Layna went to visit Spiro, asking to talk to him in private, wanting to know why R'kikki was doing something without her knowledge. Spiro admitted that he had not given her a task to carry out but had intentionally withheld information from her and the rest of the group to keep their morale and keep them focused on their task. He sounded heartbroken when he told Layna that he did everything he could to keep her alive.
The group were summoned to the bridge. Versha was the only one who didn't go straight there. After collecting some medpacks, Versha went to check up on the Mechanist. He expressed concern over her appearance but she brushed it off.
Spiro showed the others an image of a strange-looking space station. He informed them that it was the Chantry, a place that didn't exist outside of myth and legend. It was a place for a clandestine number of Sith and Republic defectors and they were hosting something of a conference and some of the biggest names on Nar Shaddaa were meeting there. Spiro said he had managed to spoof an invitation as this was too big an opportunity to miss as Roxas knew about the meeting and intended to manipulate it. He added that it wouldn't be a good thing if Roxas spotted the group as they were all supposed to be dead. Spiro would keep Roxas distracted but that would mean the group would be on their own. He provided the group with five identities but suggested that they keep a low profile and not use the alias unless they needed to:
Za volunteered to go with Liam, Layna offered to go with Kaydence, Vylan would take Conchobar, Zadirra would be Aruna, leaving Versha with Lorena. Spiro offered Moire Langbroek whose family was killed in a Mandalorian raid as a servant for Conchobar for Versha. Zadirra then claimed Lorena.
Spiro asked the group to find out what the meeting was about. He assumed that there would be discussions to resettle the status quo of Nar Shaddaa after the recent assassinations. Roxas liked chaos so the group should try to smooth everything over and it didn't ultimately matter who won.
Afterwards, Vylan went to check on Leon and Zadirra went to talk to the Mechanist. She asked about the data and asked if he had a name. He suggested calling himself Node, noting that Icarus Zedron was going to be there. He told her to be careful and wished her luck.
Inside they were able to disembark and head out of the hangar and towards a security checkpoint. After checking identities they were encouraged to proceed to the conference and to ask for Koronis Torosian about any security concerns. They were taken through the station to the conference room where a lot of people sat behind reinforced glass.
Several figures looking like Mandalorians entered the room, along with a cybernetic Hutt and Koronis Torosian introduced herself. She talked about settling a new status quo on Nar Shaddaa but was intrupted by Elian Kang and Icarus Zedron. Kang proposed ejecting Zedron and the room held a vote to discuss it. The room would reconvene shortly.
Zadirra was approached by Koronis who seemed to recognise her and she expressed surprise that Lorena wasn't dead. Zadirra explained about her retirement and asked about the security on the station. She told Zadirra to talk to Medina Catrin about security.
Meanwhile Layna went to pick up an abandoned datapad and Za went off in search of a pazaak table. Vylan and Versha were approached by a Jedi-like figure who warned Vylan against interfering and said that he knew he was unpredictable. They talked about throwing out the Zedron, noting that if they stayed then much of the room would be unhappy but if they left then the Zedron would cause problems, wondering which was the better option. Vylan though them staying would be more likely to rile people up, asking what day of the week it was and pointing out his left shoe, given that it was Tuesday. He mentioned wanting a glass of wine but told Versha to make sure it wasn't delivered by a droid.
After he left, a masked lady joined Vylan just as Zadirra arrived. She expressed surprise in Vylan's appearance at the event. Zadirra recognised her as Lady Ulla von Gadra, flattering her with her introduction.
Vylan, Layna, Versha and Zadirra looked at the datapad that Layna had picked up, Zadirra noting that it was bugged and might do something if anyone tried to access it. They wondered if they could use it to their advantage. They could use it against the Zedron, or perhaps to put pressure on the Exchange or Sokolov - they needed to get rid of the people who were likely to make the situation worse. Zadirra decided to hold onto the datapad until they could come up with a good use for it.
Vylan went to talk to the Exchange, persuading him that the Zedron were an important part of Nar Shaddaa and should be allowed to remain during the proceedings, mostly by framing the group as responsible for the Exchange's troubles from when they had last been on the surface.
Za was approached by Krall and challenged to a game of pazaak. He lost repeatedly and Krall deduced that he wasn't who he said he was.
Zedron was disturbed by Zadirra's description of Zedron enlightment and demanded to know where she had heard it. He accepted her explanation of having no idea and asked him how she could help. They talked about Zedron ideals and Icarus seemed won over by Zadirra.
Vylan and Versha headed off after the Exchange, Vylan expressing concern that the Zedron were a key part of Nar Shaddaa and were being kicked out. Kang explained that the Zedron had caused too much damage on Nar Shaddaa, including destroyed warehouses and dead employees. Vylan explained that the damage had not been caused by the Zedron but by a small ragtag group on Nar Shaddaa. It took some convincing but Vylan explained that the Zedron had been framed and Kang eventually accepted it, offering him a favour in exchange for Vylan passing along anything else he found out. Meanwhile one of the servants tried to get Versha's attention but there were many people in the room and she didn't want to blow her cover.
Zadirra left Zedron, pausing next to the Zabrak and she asked for a word with him. When pressed, she explained that he was looking at her. Zadirra then asked them to forget that she had passed through. She offered to pay them but Schofield told her to punish the Zabrak instead. Zadirra refused and Schofield threatened to announce that she had visited Zedron unless she did otherwise. Reluctantly Zadirra started attacking him. Afterwards Schofield finally introduced himself, explaining that he was from the Tarisian Free Settlers but they had been displaced from Taris.
Za was waiting by the Pazaak table when Cassius Krall walked past. They started talking about pazaak, before starting a game together. Za lost the first game and Krall suggested a second game, asking to find out Za's identity if he won. Za refused, suggesting instead that the winner would tell the other what they hoped the outcome of the meeting would be. Krall won both the second and third game and Za explained that it would be good to have a peaceful outcome. Krall seemed sceptical and asked who Za really was, explaining that the real Liam wouldn't have expressed any interest in politics. He threatened to call the guards. Za agreed to get the Mordrana Council to support whoever the meeting decided should lead Nar Shaddaa. They parted, saying that he knew Za was a Cathar because he smelled.
Bonus Force Points
+3 to Za for doing his best in terms of roleplay and working with a shitty situation in spite of shitty rolls, failing well, being no quitter, "I didn't hear no bell;" +2 to Zadirra for making good progress in the mission through roleplay and strategy.
Layna bumped into Zadirra outside and asked her to show her where the toilets were. She took them back to Erkan, asking to make use of their space. Layna quickly brought Zadirra up to speed with the message she had been given. Zadirra suggested talking to the targets, Layna dismissing it herself as she was likely to be being watched. She thought it might be related to the datapad and Zadirra agreed to look at it, telling Layna to speak to Vylan. She would pass on a message via a datachip. Zadirra wanted to find out who was pulling the strings and agreed that she would have to do most of the work as eyes would be on Layna.
Layna left, looking for Vylan. She palmed the datachip to Versha who loaded it onto her datapad and showed the message to Vylan. The two of them went to find Zadirra.
Zadirra brought them up to speed with the jobs Layna had been given, and Vylan expressed surprise that such high profile murders had been requested with Layna being the obvious suspect, with the datapad likely the item mentioned. Zadirra passed the target list onto Versha and Vylan, explaining that they needed to find out why these people had a target on their backs.
Za met up with Vylan and Versha. He explained that he had had a bad game of pazaak and that he had to pay a debt. Vylan pressed the topic and Za explained that it had been to someone of the religious kind. Upon prompting, Versha showed Za the list of targets they had been given. Za agreed to find and talk to Milen Gerig.
Layna kept exploring rooms, recognising one as belonging to Mandalorians. She knocked on the door and was asked why an assassin had business with them. Layna replied that she would rather talk face to face like warriors. Mandalore himself responded, telling Layna that she would need to fight his strongest warrior Cayden Saiurd if he were to entertain her conversation. Layna did her best to convey that she wasn't the threat that they needed to worry about, eventually managing to defeat him. With that, Mandalore asked Layna why she wanted to talk to him. Layna explained why they were there and their goals.
Zadirra tried to access the datapad. She managed to get the datapad to send the signal, determining that it had been sent to someone on board the ship, although couldn't determine much beyond the general area of the ship. She was able to get some information from it - the datapad had three options once it had been accessed. It could be a bomb, it could send a message to someone or it could access the local security to indicate that all organic life is hostile. Zadirra decided to physically open it up, finding that the datapad was acting as a cannister, likely holding poison.
Using the console, Versha and Vylan discovered that the following were at the meeting:
Bonus Force Points
+4 to Layna for the genius idea of conveying subtle conversation with the Mandalorians through Echani fighting style, excellent RP fight sequence, intertwining character lore with the interaction; +1 to Zadirra for cracking the datapad and getting key information from it, making "friends" with people in the West portion of the complex to talk privately, helping coordinate communication to the party.
After reconvening, the group discussed their next moves. Zadirra was able to get through the security systems to contact the Kyrus while Versha was going to have another go at contacting Gerig.
Vylan asked how the Zedron felt about the Bec'tac and Ou'dau explained that he didn't know but felt as if the Zedron did not see them as droids, which they were partially correct about. The Republic, however saw them as a blight and the Empire didn't tolerate them. Others held their own prejudices and considered them outsidered. They didn't understand why the Chantry invited them either but thought it might be something to do with the Force or, as they called it, the Stream. In return, Vylan warned them that some may wish harm upon them, to which Ou'dau said that he wondered if they were here because someone wished to keep them 'deafened'. As a parting remark, Ou'dau told him to look upon the parting seas and stiff waves.
Vylan hid in one of the toilets and tried to use the Force but it felt deadened around the ship with two sources on the ship before returning to the others. He wondered if someone had noticed him using it.
Zadirra ran into the person she recognised as Catrin but managed to mess up what seemed to be a secret handshake. Zadirra tried to explain her appearance, offering her a chance to ask questions and catch up. Zadirra managed to convince her that she had been in an accident and had spent a lot of time in a kolto tank. Mollified, Catrin asked what she needed and Zadirra asked about the security of the ship then, unable to get an answer, asked if Catrin knew anything about the recent assassinations. She knew little but there was a third party who had also been asking questions but wouldn't divulge who it was and asked why Zadirra was here. Zadirra's response was that it wasn't out of choice and she wasn't very happy to be there. Catrin's only response was that it explained where the notepads had gone.
Za went off in search of Milen Gerig but she had no interest in speaking with him, choosing not to associate with gamblers. Za recited a passage but was called blasphemous and the communications quickly shut off.
Layna returned to her seat to wait for others to arrive and caught up with Zadirra. When Za, Versha and Vylan arrived, they discussed the need to alert the Sorrains as Za had been unable to. Versha was elected as the person to try given that she was least likely to be recognised and least likely to raise suspicion. Meanwhile Zadirra tried to trace the datapad, determining that it seemed to originate from the Correllians. She then managed to access the security systems to access the Kyrus. Asking Versha to look at the toxin was also discussed to get an idea of its capabilities.
Bonus Force Points
+4 to Zadirra for failing in a secret handshake and dealing with a shitty situation that followed, but recovering after that while trying to maintain her cover, as well as coming through big time on slicing into the space station's communications systems; +1 to Vylan for gambling with reaching out with the Force and learning invaluable information.
Back in the auditorium, the attendees reconvened and the vote for the Zedron expulsion was held, with the Zedron being allowed to stay. The remaining topics were also passed around with the next round of voting imminent.
Realising that Ionall the Hutt hadn't been alerted to the news that someone might be out to kill him, Zadirra attempted to send a message to various datapads in the room with an anonymous message to that effect, with some help from Node.
The other guests began to return from the break and they were welcomed back. The votes started and the Zedron were allowed to remain. The other items were as follows:
Bonus Force Points
+3 to Versha for despite failing all her rolls, she had extremely excellent roleplay with superb choices and logic involved, even managed to trick the DM with a verbal feint, the RP was top tier and quick thinking was a major factor; +1 to Zadirra for getting the message to the Hutts and handling communication system logistics; +1 to Layna for spearheading the out of character conversation for what to do about the Congressional Agenda, considering ideas and angles on the political situation at hand.
Romanus Iteri was the first to speak, saying that the Exchange's handling of the Red Light District was unacceptable. Amela Moser of the Qadara Mercenary Guild objected, saying that the Iteri had a poor record with security. Ardes Sokolov was next saying that the Sokolovs would be better at defending the area and had cutting edge technology, so would be a good investment. Anish Marchessi disagreed, bringing up the Sokolov "super machine", although Sokolov accused him of slander and added that there was no proof. Vylan noted that the nearby Trandoshan seemed rather anxious.
Vylan then brought up the issue that none of the options were going to be particularly good for the economy, a sentiment echoed by Lady von Gadra. Ionall reminded the room theat the area was currently Hutt Cartel territory, while Czerka added that they had previously had control over the territory and had previously returned a profit. Annas Bonnacorso from Czerka was noted to be whispering to his boss.
Vylan sent a message to the Hutts, trying to persuade them that Czerka in control could be beneficial for their profits. A message was also sent on behalf of Lorena, saying that they should support Czerka. When the results were announced, the room was evenly split between Czerka, with the people opposing it being the Corellians, the Bec'Tacs, the Mordranans, the Zedron, the Qadara, the Mandalorians, the Aezerian Leage and the Iteri. This was far short of the two thirds majority required. Vylan asked Czerka to elaborate on how them being elected would benefit all the parties, to which Czerka offered a cut of 20% of any income for the next five years. It was enough to sway the vote.
The Zirok Corridor was next. It was an area known for allowing people to escape trafficking. It wqas operated by the Exchange and the Aezerian League and consisted of several ports and docks with access to large parts of Nar Shaddaa. Yusaf Arkera spoke up on behalf of the Aezerian League who said that they wouldn't tax anyone accessing it. There were some complaints over searches of individuals, mainly on behalf of the Tarisians from Erkan Schofield who suggested it be left in charge of Gadra or Hutts instead. Vylan suggested the Mandalorians, if people were pushing for fairness, to which the Mandalorians responded that they hadn't intended to but they would if they were asked to. The Zedron jumped in, asking to be recognised accordingly and also adding their intent to stop droid sales, which angered most of the other participants. The vote passed quickly this time, 12 to 4 in support of the Mandalorians controlling the Zirok Corridor.
Goira Square was known for being a meeting place for protesting against political activity and riots, along with being a place populated by people in poverty. In the centre was a statue of the 'Faceless Arsonist', an unknown figure who had set fire to parts of Nar Shaddaa and that was continuously re-erected despite efforts from multiple parties to take it down. Felar was the first to speak up on the issue, promising to remove the ruffians from the area by sending them to a workers' camp and Vylan was quick to object. No-one else volunteered and Ionall offered his support to Felar. Vylan tried to convince the Mordranans but they explained that they weren't prepared to go against the Felar as they would have to lose their status where they could avoid paying tribute. Vylan persuaded them that it would be cheaper in the longer run to keep the square out of the hands of the Felar and avoid such as large change in the Nar Shaddaa hierarchy. With the Mandalorians' support and Vylan explaining about the Felar and their authoritarian policies on their home planet, they managed to swing the support for the Mordranans to pass with 15 to 1.
Bonus Force Points
+3 to Zadirra for being a master of knowledge both IC and OOC, and acting upon that knowledge well, as well as discussing ideas extremely well and having an excellent grasp; +2 to Vylan for general contributions to the conversation out of character, and the excellent ability to present group ideas to a wider audience and speaking as Vylan/Conchobar.
For the final dispute, the Idora Promenade was discussed as a place important in Hutt history and tradition. Aukema felt he deserved it for helping Nar Shaddaa with trade and security. Marchessi thought that the Corellian United Front should have it to bring a new perspective to it. Sokolov wanted it to not go to anyone like the Zedron or the Aezerian League who would oppose the Sokolov - he wanted it for Sokolov but wanted it out of the wrong hands more than in the right ones. Felar said that he had a track record of improving the security of areas of Nar Shaddaa and that he could uplift the place. Iteri had offered their services to all in the past and could do the same here. Czerka wished to push their fraught past with the Hutts to one side and to host generous ceremonies. Vylan then asked the Hutts for their opinion, and Ionall said that he wanted it for himself. Mandalore looked furious, explaining that the Hutts had caused fires in the industrial sector and that the Hutts were taking them all for fools.
Za looked up and noticed a rifle muzzle sticking out of a hole in the ceiling that seemed to be aimed at the middle of the room. He alerted Zadirra who alerted Vylan who sent a message to security. They received a nonsensical message back, making Vylan think that the system had been hacked along with the following: You fooled me once but I will complete my mission. The Pale Whisper sends her regards. Layna quickly realised that the sniper was likely the real Kaydence. Vylan made contact with the other Jedi.
The Bec'Tacs announced that they sought refuge on the promenade and could offer a demonstration of technology that he could bring in exchange. At some prompting from Vylan, he pulled out a cube and energy surged out of it in a water-like fashion, explaining it was how they traveled around the galaxy. Zadirra wasn't convinced by the display but the votes passed 15:1. Afterwards a recess was called.
Bonus Force Points
+3 to Za for finding the sniper, keeping things lowkey when he found them, figured out key information thanks to Za's actions; +2 to Vylan for being an excellent face for the group during diplomatic roleplay, a great front to the outside world, and excellent roleplay.
When they were eventually recalled, Vylan supported the Gadra pirates in their bid to provide security for Nar Shaddaa and with security of the ports remaining with the Aezerian League.
They decided to tell at least part of the truth and revealed that Layna under her guise as Kaydence had been sent a list of targets and it was likely that the assassin had been sent a similar list. Catrin agreed to keep Layna's name out of it but said she would add more security to those named on the list. As she was about to leave, Catrin was informed that guards had found a hole cut in the hull with a fusion cutter.
They group spent some time in the room. Versha checked out some of the books, finding one on medicine that she copied to her datapad along with some others that she thought Moire might have been interested in. One called The Ruminations and Machinations of the Most Distant of Murmurs by Remo Fowler caused her datapad to error and she quickly stopped the transfer process. Zadirra spent the time playing games on the computer.
They were recalled to the main hall, noting that the Tarisians had changed seats. Torosian welcomed everyone back and introduced the topic of security for Nar Shaddaa, currently held by the Exchange. Amela Moser, head of Qadara Mercenaries, felt that Qadarans could do a better job and could give the Felar a reasonable price. Sokolov volunteered his company noting that his employees had standards and offered to do it more cheaply, while Czerka offered their services and had a long history of doing so. This angered Vylan and he asked Node to send over any footage he could find of the incident with the death machine on Nar Shaddaa. This was then sent on to everyone in the room. Silence greeted them, with Ionall eventually noting that it wouldn't be in anyone's interests to give this to Sokolov. Lady von Gadra offered her own services for free in response, although Gerig warned against it. Vylan endorsed von Gadra, which resulted in an 11:5 passing vote in support of the Gadra pirates taking over security.
The next topic was the Aezerian League maintaining control over entry and exit ports. Kamer of the Aezerian League, spoke of supporting sanctions against the Zedron and requested that people support them. Marchessi of the Corellian United Front, volunteered themselves but added they would require resources and manpower. Lady von Gadra explained that as they were doing the rest of the security, it would be best to have one organisation doing everything - this did not go down well with others preferring that power should be divided. The vote decided on the Aezerian League, with four votes against.
Bonus Force Points
+3 to Zadirra for being the most helpful in utilizing skills this session, contributed to OOC conversation regarding strategy and tactics for the diplomatic mission, also made a big play in contacting Node at a key juncture; +2 to Layna for OOCly helping with forming and moving plans along in the RP, advising Vylan in terms of decision making and wording, navigating economic matters effectively.
Za announced that he had the ability to see where the sniper was but he would need the help of one of the others. With no other volunteers, Zadirra offered. As Za put his hand on Zadirra, she felt a lot of pain and started cursing in an unknown language. It gave the ability to see through walls.
Vylan also took the opportunity to ask what the sanctions were going to be.
Kang suggested that they hear the Zedron have a chance to defend themselves. Icarus explained that not everything was of his doing, which angered other attendees. 45 of the 76 activities that the Zedron had been accused of were not carried out by them but by individual droids. The remaining ones had already had reparations paid. Vylan asked for details of the events, finding no. 37 matched his own experience of Nar Shaddaa and had been caused by a splinter group, although Vylan had some data that indicated that Icarus had ordered them to do that. It was enough to gain support for the sanctions across the chamber and only three voted against sanctions.
The tributary system was to be the penultimate topic. Layna wondered whether to remind people that the Templarate was taking on some of the responsibilities of the Gaira Square in Nar Shaddaa. Naturally the Templarate wanted to continue to be exempted. It passed 12:4.
The final vote was on who should be the new Head of Inter-corporate Security on Nar Shaddaa and Vylan nominated himself, citing the amount that he had been able to bring to the meeting. Ionall and Iteri also volunteered. The vote was too close to be conclusive so Vylan was given more time to persuade the room, to which he explained his plans to improve the security of Nar Shaddaa. It resulted in a two thirds majority.
Meanwhile Za was still searching for the assassin and caught sight of her far above them sitting next to several thermal detonators. He asked for another sacrifice. Versha stepped out of his reach leaving Layna to volunteer. It nearly killed her but gave Za what he needed to finish the assassin off. There was a loud rumble from above and the ceiling exploded.
Bonus Force Points
+2* to Layna for helping with negotiations OOC, for being willing and able to take the hit for the beacon of Soraia, considering the high amount of damage; +2 to Za for being pivotal in finding the assassin and blowing her up, as well as RPing very well by playing to his character's honesty and integrity; +1 to Vylan for fronting the conference roleplay, playing very well to their character ICly.
*(Bonus Force Points goes to the one who hasn't had the Bonus Force Point for the longest time in a tie).
Back on board the Kyrus, a smiling Spiro told them that many of the representatives had been in contact and that they had done well and were now in a powerful position over Nar Shaddaa, although were now wanted by the Felar and the Corellians.
They started to work out out where they were heading next.
While the guards ran in towards the Felar, the rest of the group decided to take their leave rather than stay around for the ceremonial end of the proceedings. Catrin asked them to stay behind, noting that several extraordinary incidents had occurred during the course of the day and that she suspected that they weren't who they were who they said they were. Vylan tried to convince her that he had no idea what she was talking about but Catrin saw through it and it was left to Zadirra to explain that they were independent and wanted to get the best outcome for the proceedings. Catrin asked about what happened to the person that Zadirra was impersonating, to which Zadirra informed her that she had died in an accident. Catrin was understandably upset.
They left for the Kyrus, with Node welcoming them back and saying that he saw Spiro smile. He added that the real Conchobar was in contact and was willing to work with them. Spiro was going to want to talk to them when they returned. Node had apparently been awake for 30 hours.
Back on board, Spiro actually was smiling. Layna handed over the datapad they had found and Spiro recognised it as belonging to Demir. He announced that the Gadra pirates were willing to work with him and the Mandalorians had worked out who they were and had agreed to back him. The Mordranan Templarate had also contacted him and he had put in a good word for Za, and the Bec'Tacs were going to help. On the other hand, the Felar and the Corellians had put a mark on each of their heads. The Exchange was now under scrutiny and could be about to collapse. Each of them got a payment of 5000 credits as a bonus, plus 3000 as standard payment, then Spiro announced the next steps.
Bonus Force Points
+4 to Zadirra for being the main contributor to the poison plot, as well as consoling Medina Catrin, and for excellent roleplay; +1 to Vylan for having the balls to say "fuck you, we're going to Alderaan," and for helping resolve the poison plot.
After talking to Node, Zadirra headed off to the medical bay to ask about implants.
Vylan went to look on the holonet for anything about Alderaan. House Thuul seemed to be producing a lot of propaganda. Some Republic sources informed him that the situation was tense with several houses trying to undermine the main house. House Scheinberg came out of nowhere and came to the throne about 40 years ago with the house patriarch recently dying and with his 13-year-old son, Heron Scheinberg, surrounded by a regency council. The son came across as incompetent and might never come to the throne. This seemed to be pushed by his mother Maria Scheinberg. Meanwhile Vylan found a mention of his family, particularly Lord Atris Halcorr becoming close to Maria Scheinberg.
Layna went off to train with her drink in her hand. She was visited by Marnhull who expressed surprise at the existence of tiharr on board. The two sparred with Marnhull coming off considerably worse despite wearing armour.
Versha stocked up on medpacs from the medical bay, going to visit R'kikki and placing a hand on her tank while she was there. After that she holed herself up in her room with the book she had picked up on the Chantry.
Za meanwhile went to visit August to look for supplies. August asked about Za's role in the Templarate.
Leon went to visit Vylan in his room. Vylan admitted he was nervous about returning, to which Leon explained that he wasn't supposed to return to Alderaan as he had charmed a noble's daughter and her uncle turned up in the middle of the night. The woman had been betrothed for political reasons. Vylan said that he hadn't been there since he was six and that his family thought he was dead. He remembered playing in the mountains with his sister and coming across a Jedi who had crash landed and who would later take him on, called Kiro Sindell. Leon meanwhile, explained that he was helping Spiro to fill in gaps in his network, which was pretty much his normal job but he was getting paid three times his usual wage. He mentioned cheap goods, and the two discussed discount holoshrouds and the risks of secondhand devices, with Leon having a potential contact called Hanzo.
Layna went to visit August in search of a disguise suitable for Alderaan. August said he would look out for them but she was advised to talk to Spiro instead. Layna went off to the bridge. Spiro explained that Vylan would likely go as a noble, Layna could go as a bodyguard, Versha could be a servant, Zadirra as a tech expert and Za was more problematic but could be another noble. Finally Layna asked about R'kikki's body. Spiro hadn't made any contact with her family and didn't want to do so with the group not on the ship but he thought there would be time to make a stop on Tatooine after Alderaan. Spiro meanwhile expressed concern that there was animosity between her and Za, and Layna explained that Za had betrayed them to his god and that he had betrayed their trust. Vylan was also emotional and most likely to go on murderous rampages.
Leon finally returned to Vylan with news on the discounted holoshroud - Hanzo had one for 7500 credits and it worked about half the time. Vylan decided not to risk it and the two discussed the likelihood of Spiro spying on people around the ship instead.
Za went to visit Zadirra to ask about upgrades for his weapons. She agreed to some improvements that might help him shoot more accurately. He then went off to visit Vylan, offering him the credits that he needed to buy a reliable holoshroud. Vylan checked if there were any goddess-related strings attached before accepting it. Vylan ran straight off to the medbay to find August to obtain a holoshroud, avoiding looking at R'kikki any more than he had to (#RememberKikki). August explained that he wasn't going be able to get it for market price and Vylan declined to get it on principle.
Versha risked a run to the canteen to get some food, doing her best to avoid Spiro. He offered to listen if there was anything that she wanted to talk about, although Versha didn't accept.
Za also went to visit Layna, offering her credits if there was anything she needed. Layna said she couldn't think of anything, although toyed with the idea of both a droid or a ship so that they could be less reliant upon Spiro. Layna expressed concern over being able to trust Za in the future or if he would choose him church over the group once again.
Layna listened to the news, learning that the Sith Empire had announced an edict about relationships with aliens and the Gadra were doing something in the Outer Rim. There had been some officials from her homeworld Kuat who were being charged for embezzlement. Then she switched her attention to Alderaanian entertainment instead.
Zadirra did some research on Alderaan, learning about the current situation. She then went to Spiro to compare notes. Spiro admitted that someone associated with Roxas appeared to be on Alderaan.
Meanwhile Versha went to visit Node to get her datapad checked out. She ran into Zadirra in the corridor who asked if she was alright. Versha gave her a short explanation about R'kikki before visiting Node who confirmed that her datapad was alright.
+100 Bribery Points to Za - He be tryin' to use them dosh to win over the party...it's not working very well.
The Scheinberg family descended from House Panteer. Ordos Scheinberg died six months ago in an assassination. Large parts of Alderaan were now locked down, including the spaceport. Vylan offered to reach out as himself but Spiro said that that wasn't necessary. Spiro said that Roxas wanted to destabilise the situation given that a regency council was in place as the heir was a 14-year-old boy. Other houses were Organa, Thul and Ulgo. Spiro had arranged for some ID for the group, hoping that they would be able to pass as the security team. Mikael Etxebarria was the head of the security and the military had just survived an assassination from an anti-monarchist group called Regicide four days ago. Although it wasn't proven that it was them, Regicide had a reputation for using smokescreens which also jammed technology, which also occurred during the incident.
Spiro's contact was called Zerapion Lahtinen who was posing as the physician for Heron Scheinberg, the 14 year old. Heron's mother was Kastia who ordered that the dissenters were hanged to send a message. Spiro said to not trust anyone fully, including Lahtinen.
Zenonas Sinagra was a friend of Ordos who showed disdain for monarchy and tradition on Alderaan and was a controversial figure, and Editha Breda was from another noble house and on the regency council, signing edicts on behalf of the prince. Alevtina Organa is the wife of Daumantas Organa and is also on the regency council as did Magnar Thul, serving as envoy on the regency council, and Galilea Ulgo served as master of the blade and Royal Huntress.
House Rist was another old house, under Ayaz Rist with son Slade Rist and both were also expected to make an appearance. Kilian Sobol was head of records for House Scheinberg.
The group were going to take the following names: Leida Ousura (Layna), Vera Martel (Versha), Zadera Banero (Zadirra), Viera Killian (Vylan) and Zed Krensar (Za).
They arrived on Alderaan, Vylan watching the approach and talking to Zadirra, and with Versha pressed to the window and seeing water and green trees for the first time in her life. Guards entered the shuttle, led by Slade Rist. Rist accused them as being in Alderaan under instruction by Xeraden Phaedra. He told Vylan to tell Phaedra that he knew what he did, and Vylan responded angrily. Node spoke to them and Phaedra seemed to be the son of Obadiah Phaedra. The name seemed to coincide with Roxas' arrival on Alderaan five days ago and they concluded it was likely an alias of his. Node said it was unlikely that Roxas currently on the surface but he would inform Spiro, and Vylan also asked him to pass along that he had also sensed something dark nearby.
They entered the station and were able to jump some of the queues with the help of a datachip.
Bonus Force Points
+3 to Vylan for sticking it to House Rist (gutsy), for playing the character really well and with dedication despite the potential risks involved, and for great roleplay in general; +2 to Zadirra for keeping everything afloat and steering the mission in the right direction, being a moderating force, as well as specifically hearding Vylan like a lothcat to the best of anyone's ability.
The group were then taken off to be questioned, although primarily as witnesses for the officer's behaviour. The guards apologised for her behaviour and handed them all datachips.
Outside they were met by, and introduced to Zerapion Lahtinen who led them out of the docking bay and into a courtyard. It was surrounded by banners for the main houses, along with trees and the palace further up distinguished by its towers and spires.
Lahtinen updated them about the conspiracies around the crown prince, including the ones to have him assassinated. He updated the group on the events around the demise of House Panteer, having been in charge of the autopsy of Ordos Scheinberg and didn't think that it had been carried out by Regicide, instead believing it due to poisoning or exposure to some sort of chemical that caused him to become weaker and unable to defend himself. Scheinberg had appeared unusually afraid and unable to move when the assassins had come for him. The body was being held in stasis. Zadirra offered Versha's services to have a look at the body, although Lahtinen mentioned that it might be difficult to bring outsiders so close as Sobol could be very abrasive. The crown prince was believed to by physically healthy although Lahtinen was concerned about his mental faculties.
They were handed a contract with an NDA detailing information pertaining to the crown prince. They would be held legally liable if any information were to be leaked, which meant being charged with treason.
Lahtinen explained that the boy had night terrors, and more than might be expected at the age of 14. He hadn't been acting like himself, prone to bouts of mania and depression and becoming increasingly volatile in his behaviour. His mother had some issues with arthritis but her son wasn't expected to have those same issues. Vylan asked if there were any newcomers in the area, and Lahtinen considered some of the people on the regency council. Versha used her diagnostic scanner to scan the room and Lahtinen, identifying an anomaly that seemed to be biological in origin as it passed over Lahtinen. Lahtinen passed them datachips to provide access to parts of the palace and explained that there was a villa further up the path that they would be staying in - 3B-3F. 3A was in use by a family friend. Lahtinen himself stayed in 1C. Vylan promised that they would do their best to look after the prince.
After Lahtinen had left, Vylan updated the group on the Force sensitive person he had sensed earlier, along with the impression he had had that the warrant officer had recognised him. Node was listening in and informed them that he didn't detect any bugs and that palace security was very tight. Versha asked about the possibility of sending data to the ship to make use of the lab there. Node suggested asking Lahtinen about lab access but they wondered about the possibility of using Versha's scanner combined with Zadirra's datapad.
Versha went off to the library to try to learn more about the library. She got distracted by the trees, noticing that leaves were falling off the trees in a way that didn't seem completely healthy, and catching a leaf in her hands. Magnar Thul and Editha Breda were already there when she arrived, noting that the books contained names of people Versha had never heard of, along with sayings and slogans. Kilian Sobol who demanded to know why she was there and what expertise she had. After removing Thul from the library, he demanded to know more about Versha who was evasive about her background but Sobol guessed that her background was more with animals than humans. He refused to help her and Versha ran from the room, hiding outside and crying.
Zadirra attempted to access the console, alarmed at the amount of security that was present. She found that the console would have the ability to access turrets, which seemed to be manufactured by a company called Anza Coil Inc. Layna took the opportunity to look over the defenses around the site, noting that they did seem to be good and without obvious holes. Unusually a small garden to the east of the villa was also surrounded by royal house guards and they appeared to be guarding food. Similarly Apartment 9F seemed to have guards outside for no apparent reason. One of the people on the cameras looked directly at the camera and waved as Layna was looking at him. Seconds later the console pinged with a message: don't tell anyone - meet me at the east fence in two hours. Za apparently had not seen anything, although had noted something fleeting on one of the palace spires. Layna noticed that the cameras stored data for a fortnight and then data was moved offsite. She still couldn't see the mysterious man. She also saw some metal bars being bent, apparently by design.
Vylan tried to listen in to a conversation between two men in the grounds. They were discussing the politics around the crown prince, assuming that the crown prince would be done in at some point and wanted to be on the right side and benefit for themselves. They name-dropped a few people: Slade Rist, Ayaz Rist, Ulgo, Thul, Organa and Zenonas Sinagra, a controversial figure on the council who wanted to return Alderaan to a republic.
As Vylan returned to the palace, he was intercepted by an armoured stranger who wanted to know what he had overheard. Vylan suggested taking the conversation elsewhere.
Bonus Force Points
+4 to Za for his brilliant idea of surveying the area from a tall point in a sniper's nest, giving key and crucial information to the party from his bird's eye view, and relaying all this back to the rest of the team with realistic, immaculate RP.
Versha and Layna discussed their respective guilts over R'kikki's death and then went off to investigate the gardens, Versha returning with a lot of soil samples as Layna went off to help out Vylan. Versha was waylaid by Thul on the way back, asking for some dirt on Sobol that he could use.
Zadirra tried to access the apartment security system for apartment 9F but there didn't seem to be any security cameras there inside, although the console suggested that they might have been there at some point. She was able to access most of the security inside - locks, sensors, ventilation, etc - although there wasn't any access to the camera themselves. Only 9F seemed to have the ability to circulate a toxic gas throughout the room. Zadirra managed to access the motion sensor and it detected someone inside. The guards outside immediately rushed in, with the person inside kneeling and putting their hands over their head. The guards then accessed the AC system. Declining to edit the code in the system, Zadirra then contacted Node to see if they could access the palace itself, although Node was concerned about tipping off Roxas himself. They didn't have much luck.
On top of the building, Za noticed a symbol on the door of 21C that matched that of the Mordranan order - it was Uiria's symbol that represented the moon. Upon Zadirra's request for help, Za went to join her, meeting up with Vylan on the way. They brought each other up to speed, discussing the possibility of sneaking in through the waste disposal to visit the prisoner.
Layna went to find Versha who was feeling pretty miserable after being unable to convince Sobol to help them. She convinced her that she was a good part of the team with experience being more valuable than a job title and a qualification and did her best to persuade her that she wasn't responsible for R'kikki's death, and she also shared some responsibility.
Versha and Layna went to look at the "fruits" learning that they were potatoes and that they were being deliberately poorly guarded to encourage people to steal them to prevent them from starving. Layna asked if they could take some samples for testing and was given permission to access any aside from the spice garden which was restricted under orders from the queen mother. The guard introduced himself as Sachin Oblak. Versha's scanner picked up some anomalies in soil samples taken from around potatoes that weren't present in any other soil samples.
Covered in dirt and carrying potatoes, on the way back to the room, Versha ran into Magnar Thul who wanted to know the details of her conversation with Sobol and called her a Mole. Versha clarified that he wanted "dirt" on him and didn't give him much that he could use against Sobol, which Magnar refused to believe. When getting nowhere, Thul gave her one last chance and Versha ran off.
Zadirra went through Vylan's datachip and verified the information that Bannister gave him. She also uncovered a blueprint of the palace and a document about "Regicide", who had always appeared masked and provided some indication that the leader was, in fact, two different people. She found some data on the person in the room too, where the data was at least four months old and maybe even older and could easily date back to the time of the king's assassination. Zadirra updated Vylan on the situation, with Vylan joking that the man was the king himself and Zadirra suggesting that it was the result of a coup.
Bonus Force Points
+4 to Versha for her excellent roleplay, great garden investigation, amazing heart-to-heart with another character in the party, helped to resolve a major point of character development and develop it further; +1 to Layna for excellent roleplay, amazing heart-to-heart with another character in the party, helped to resolve a major point of character development and develop it further.
Elbow-deep in trouble, they found a woman trapped inside and put their hearts into rescuing her, running into some assailants on the way out that they managed to take down before the woman was taken down too. The situation became hairy and Vylan got angry. He and Za took the final assailant out before Vylan tried to muscle through to the guards at the front of the apartment. Zadirra eyeballed the situation remotely but lost her nerve and made the gut-wrenching decision to trigger a nerve agent to flood the building. Doing so cost an arm and a leg, resulting in Vylan's death.
As they approached the building, they noticed a network of military-grade lasers around the site and contacted Zadirra for help. Under her guidance, Za sneaked inside and disabled the system. They found the waste chute, Za quickly spotting a severed human leg inside. Vylan cleared the blockage which resulted in an avalanche of other body parts being loosened. Meanwhile Zadirra accessed the computer system.
Inside was a room smeared with blood and other bodily fluids. There seemed to be evidence of several bodies - one had been beaten with two others attacked with a serrated blade. Further inside, they sensed a person behind a door. Vylan sent a message indicating that he was a friend and then opened it up, finding a woman behind it. She explained that she couldn't move because the place was booby-trapped. Za looked for a pressure plate but couldn't see one and freed her, Vylan asking if he could blindfold her so that she wouldn't see anything on the way out, and lifted her up.
On the way out, they ran into two men wearing stealth gear and carrying long rifles. Vylan dropped the woman as he was shot at while Za threw a concussion grenade at them. Vylan finished them off.
Zadirra was following the carnage via the security feeds, noting that the assailants only appeared after they had been taken out. She warned Vylan and Za that there could be others around, also identifying an annex space that the sensors couldn't see, and did her best to buy the others some time by shutting the door.
Za then stepped on a pressure pad which attracted the attention of a third assailant. Vylan ran to help, telling the woman that if he were taken down then she should run to the waste chute. Another assailant jumped out and targeted the woman. She fell face first onto the ground as a plasma bolt hit her, and Vylan gave in to his anger. The final assailant fell out of the ceiling with a broken neck.
A hacker tried to get the sealed door back open. Zadirra asked Za for an update on the situation, deciding to let the hacker in and let Vylan take care of them. Vylan cut him in half with a lifesaber. Vylan then set off towards the front of the building, Za following. Za tried to convince him with Sorraia then, when that wasn't successful, dropped a stun grenade. Zadirra triggered the poison to flood the facility with both Vylan and Za immediately choking to death on their own blood. Vylan managed to save Za's life at the cost of his own.
Zadirra stared at the screen for a moment, and then threw her helmet against the wall.
Bonus Force Points
Unanimously goes to Vylan for their new character.
Upon returning, Zadirra admitted her part in Vylan's death, with Node trapping them in the room until they had heard her out. This resulted in Versha walking out as soon as the door was unlocked. Zadirra and Layna went to recover Vylan's body, learning that Za was likely still alive. When they arrived an unknown woman with a red lightsaber was already there who demanded to know what Vylan had been doing.
Layna went off on her scheduled meeting. Cautious of the situation, she programmed a timed message to be sent to Zadirra. Zadirra met him outside a gate where he introduced himself as Omri Amador and said that he was the right hand of Regicide. He wanted the nobility to come to the table to negotiate a peaceful resolution and Regicide could compromise - Alderaan would be better for it. He needed Layna to make this happen. Layna offered to talk to them but wanted to fight him to learn more about him. After goading him, she introduced herself as Leida. The man admitted that the name he had given was an alias and his real name was Lorrin he explained that he lost a close friend a few weeks ago and he was doing it for her.
Upon returning, Layna explained that she had made an ally, along with the Regicide situation. Zadirra explained that without any other options she had stopped Vylan and that he was dead with Za badly injured. When Versha tried to leave, Node locked the door and refused to let her out until she swore to not throw the mission. With that agreement, Node unlocked the door and Versha fled.
Node explained to Layna and Zadirra that they had access to Bec'Tac technology and could use it to teleport Za out. They agreed but when Node contacted them the Bec'Tac were suddenly unable to access the building and something else was interfering with the signal. With no other option, Zadirra and Layna went to the building themselves.
Inside there was a woman going through Vylan's jacket on the ground and pulling out his lightsaber which she clipped onto his belt. She was distrustful of Layna and Vylan but allowed them to help Za and even helped to heal him. She insisted on accompanying them back to their base to learn more about what Vylan had been doing. With the help of Za's camouflage poncho, they managed to sneak Vylan's body out of the building and past the guards.
As she left, Versha sent a vaguely threatening message to Spiro telling him to look after Donk.
Bonus Force Points
+3 to Layna for great roleplay, for the zinger at Zadirra, and for working on things with Omri through combat; +1 to Zadirra for sticking to her character, admitting to her actions despite the potential consequences, great roleplay; +1 to Za for quickly thinking with the poncho and aiding the group's exfiltration.
Meanwhile Za and Layna discussed the events around Vylan's death, Za explaining how he tried to stop Vylan. Layna suggested trying to find Versha but Node dissuaded her, adding that he was keeping tabs on her.
Athena went off in search of a quiet space, sending out a message to her mother who she hadn't spoken to for a long time and telling her of Vylan's death. She introduced herself as Eris and warned her against telling anyone else as the Sith were after her and wouldn't hesitate to go after her too. Lady Halcorr mentioned that Vylan's father was currently at the palace.
Inside, Zadirra investigated the datapad she had found in the apartment, learning that it belonged to Sandra Woodward. She asked Spiro for help and he mentioned that the Anza Coil seemed to be related, along with Roxas' obsession with the ouroboros symbol. Spiro gave her some ideas but said that he needed to go and distract Roxas. Zadirra found some contacts named Arif Holt and Techla Spannagel, along with identifying some oddly-written poems.
Zadirra and Layna were summoned to the palace and the group had a quick discussion on what to do with Vylan's body. It was decided that Athena would visit the court physician to obtain a cryopouch. Upon arriving, Zadirra was asked where the rest of the group was, and Zadirra explained that the others were starting to carry out their duties.
House Rist's representative, Ayaz, had a buzzard on his shoulder and asked about the crown prince's security. House Rist offered its support over bringing in outsiders in exchange for meeting its terms. He was cut off by the prince himself saying that it wasn't necessary. Another man offered Galilea's expertise on behalf of Ulgo but the Crown Prince said that he would have to talk to Galilea first. House Organa asked if he had spoken to Alevtina, to which the crown prince agreed that he had. Thul expressed concern that whoever the prince had hired was no better than the previous group of mercenaries.
The group were introduced and bowed, in Za's case, badly, which drew ire from the crowd. The crown prince seemed less concerned and asked for insights from the group about the palace's security. He seemed pleased with their responses, saying as much to his mother and adding that they had already done better than the previous team. A nearby man called Atrus complained to someone called Vynon about bringing them in.
Bonus Force Points
+3 to Eris for the commlink communications between herself and her mother, Lady Halcorr; +1 to Versha for the messages she created and for keeping something going off screen; +1 to Zadirra for dealing with a lot right now and dealing with it well in terms of roleplay.
Athena went to visit Sobal, making a far better impression on him than Versha had done and being invited to learn about the ritual. Afterwards she took Vylan's body to House Halcorr and his family, and then went for a walk in the grounds with her mother.
He also asked if any of them had seen yellow lilacs but was evasive as to why, giving them an explanation that they had previously been a present from a childhood commoner friend indicating that she was there. He said that her name was Sandra. At this Zadirra informed him that she had seen the flowers in the villa guarded by the palace guards and they discussed the possibility of passwords for the datapad - her name was an anagram of 'a sword and a word'.
Meanwhile Athena was heading towards the lab and received a message from the court physician. He was needed by the crown prince but she could be assisted by Sobol instead. He quickly found the cryopouch that she needed and seemed impressed by her, inviting her to find him to learn the rites to the ritual and telling her that she made a better impression than Versha had. She returned to Vylan's body and put it in the cryopouch. She was contacted by her mother and informed her that Vylan's body was ready for travel.
Athena made her way to House Halcorr's estate with Vylan's body. Vylan's body was transferred to a medical bed and returned to his family. Her mother gave her a hug and Athena promised to return, slipping a leather necklace into her father's pocket. The two took a walk in the grounds.
Back at the palace, the group updated each other on the recent events. They wondered why Sandra had been left in the room and if she was needed for something - they could have killed her on sight if she had seen something that she shouldn't have done. Athena said that the Sith had ways of getting people to talk. Zadirra checked the datapad and was able to access it with the password the prince had suggested, finding a file containing a poem inside:
In times most grave, in my time of need
I have found solace, in great hero's deeds
Did I find you, oh wandering winds
Oh starlight once had, sterling cosmic bends
What I call my, deep rooted desire
What lies in my heart, though I cannot tire
Wind whispered in, quiet melodies
I find the crossroads, betwixt all my dreams
Never heard of, timeworn in whisper
Where is my heart gold, forever misper
Bonus Force Points
+3 to Zadirra for getting a lot out of the Crown Prince, for "putting up for Eris' bitchy ass," and doing some excellent RP; +2 to Versha for pity and voluntarily sitting out of 2-3 sessions by now.
As she left the forest, she contacted Node. He hadn't overheard anything that had happened but encouraged her to return to the others. At Versha's asking if anyone was angry, he gave her an update on the group's situation and explained that there was someone who had joined the others.
Back at the palace, Zadirra was working on the poem. She found a sentence hidden in it but decided that she needed to talk to the prince. She thought she would need one of the writs in order to get a private audience with the prince, to which Athena expressed confusion over why Layna had all the spares when she wasn't with the group. Za offered to accompany Atheta to interrogate the prisoners instead.
Meanwhile Layna was off on her way to meet up with Omri. He was waiting for her, initially hidden behind a stealth belt, explaining that there were two assassination attempts on the prince that Regicide had had no hand in - one was a gas attack and the other was an attempted dirty bomb. He explained that there was someone close to the king who had had a hand in his assassination and who might have been involved in those additional two attempts. He explained that Regicide tried to not harm civilians in any attempt. The dirty bomb would have had chemicals seeping into the ground and would have done untold damage to the local agriculture for an extended period of time. He also added that most people in Regicide were anonymous. He believed that Zenonas Sinagra might have been responsible, acting in his own interests.
Zadirra went off to review security. She was asked to have an audience with the security council, specifically Mikael Etxebarria and went along. Etxebarria insisted that she take her helmet off in his presence. Zadirra refused, which amused Etxebarria. He said that the security system in place had been installed 17 years ago, and the company went bankrupt five years ago. A different company took over and removed some of the fixtures (damaging a 600-year-old candelabra in the process), and the number of assassination attempts suddenly started to increase at that point. This had been arranged with Editha Breda who was the prince's tutor after the previous one had fallen down a mineshaft and broken his neck while out on a walk. Both expressed concern over Breda potentially manipulating things. He mentioned Camilla. The two exchanged comms frequencies before parting ways, and Zadirra asked Node to look into Breda's background.
Za and Athena headed down to the dungeons. The guard told them that the original interrogator was off-world at that moment but gave them access to the recordings. After letting the two of them in, the guards left them alone with the promise that they currently weren't being recorded.
Bonus Force Points
+3 to Layna for the connection Regicide, and specifically Lorrin, and for obtaining key information that may help resolve the crisis on Alderaan; +2 to Versha for having a penchant of unintentionally running into trouble, and for sticking to her character and doing some great roleplay.
Zadirra investigated the palace security, finding it to be generally very good but finding a few areas in need of some investigation. She found and disabled a couple of bombs hidden behind panelling, as well as stumbling across the corpse of the Queen Mother.
Athena removed two of the security cameras and, when offered her datapad, Itai typed in One of the regency council. Regicide's attacks were often characterised with an energy-disabling smoke, which affected even lightsabers. The attacks themselves took place using slugthrowers. The three of them discussed faking Itai's death, with Node's assistance, then Athena set off lightning in the room before putting him in a Force trance, with no regard for the person in charge of replacing the cell furniture. With Node's assistance, he was scheduled to be taken back to the Kyrus.
Zadirra went off in search of the security, noting that the system did seem to be quite secure and that the changelogs went back 12 years. Four entrypoints seemed to have been manipulated and she found a spoofed camera feed. Zadirra went to investigate. As she opened up a panel near one of the entrypoints she heard something start to beep and quickly managed to disable it. In one of the other rooms she had identified, she found a memorial to a woman in a painting with a dusty white rose nearby. Knowing what to look for this time, she found another bomb behind the panel and disabled it, along with fixing a palace warning system. While exploring the room with the spoofed camera with some accompanying security guards, she came across the Queen Mother's corpse floating in a crate in her own liquids.
Bonus Force Points
+3 to Athena for clever thinking on conducting the interrogation and getting the prisoner out via Force Trance, and Pleku likes torture; +2 to Zadirra for excellent work tracking down clues, and finding out critical information.
When the rest of the group arrived, they managed to take them down with only minor injuries and unconsciousness sustained (no thanks to Versha). With the prince apparently sufficiently secure, they decided that the best course of action was to find the Queen Mother and teleported directly to her.
Layna was first back, Versha not far behind her, with Athena and Za returning soon after that. Athena demanded to know where Versha had been, to which Versha apologised and Layna told her that she had been with her. Athena expressed surprise about the lack of organisation with the group while Za updated Layna and Versha on what they had learnt. A message from the prince summoned them all back to the palace. On the way over, Layna passed Versha her datapad and Versha wrote the following cryptic question without providing any other detail: You know how Spiro's always listening in on us? What if others could do the same?
Inside, Zadirra heard a click behind her, drawing her own gun in response. One of the guards grappled her, his companion expressing confusion and attempting to stop him. Zadirra fought free. She and the other guard managed to restrain him, calling Etxebarria for backup, and then ran over to the prince's chambers to find the bomb suspected to be there.
In the prince's chambers, three guards armed with halberds were already inside. Zadirra updated the others with her location and went in, dropping her grenade at her feet where it exploded. One of Versha's shots went wild, hitting Athena who managed to throw up a shield just in time. Athena demanded that the attackers give themselves up, and they dropped their weapons.
After being revived, Zadirra explained what had happened with the Queen Mother and the bombs. One of the attackers seemed to be signalling to the other, so Athena attempted to behead him. Layna helped to knock him out. They looked around - there were some misplaced ceiling tiles indicating that the attackers had come from the roof.
The room seemed to be locked and even Athena wasn't able to cut her way out. Zadirra asked Node to ask the Bec'Tacs to teleport them to the Queen Mother.
Bonus Force Points
+4 to Layna for remembering the teleport perk, which was key in helping to resolve the current crisis, and for being nice to Versha despite her possibly not deserving it; +1 to Zadirra for being integral to the Striketeam's counter to the assassination plot, and for nearly dying heroically at the hands of a grenade she accidentally detonated in her own hands.
Versha brought back Zadirra who noticed that the room was set to fill with gas in the next 30 seconds. Zadirra quickly disabled it.
Bonus Force Points
+3 to Versha for doing an excellent job healing the party, including keeping several people up for at least one more hit, and for being key to the pace of the combat itself and the post-combat events, and great RP; +1 to the DM for being open to communication, rulings, and for focusing on having fun and balancing combat with story, and for creating a balanced fight; +1 to Za for excellent marksmanship and taking advantage of attack openings and abilities, not to mention an insane crit for 71 damage!
As they left the room, the group were greeted by more guards who demanded that they dropped their weapons. Layna threw the unconscious woman at their feet. Most of the group dropped the weapons, Eris being the notable exception. The crown prince's arrival caused the guards to pause. He asked that Layna return the unconscious woman to where she fell and allowed the group to pick their weapons back up. They went off to a side room to talk to him about the situation, Layna pointing out Breda to Etxebarria who promptly had her arrested. Zadirra, Layna and Za updating the crown prince on everything they had found out. He warned Athena that he would have to report her to the Sith if she did anything to threaten alliances on Alderaan. Versha then expressed concern that someone might try to poison the prince but the prince explained that he fasted a lot.
Outside, three members of the council were arguing with guards. Some other houses had volunteered themselves to take places on the recently-vacated seats on the council. Houses Rist and Sokolov had put themselves forward.
Versha went off to help the unconscious woman. After introducing herself to Eliseus Alexiou, the Guard Captain Section C35, she brought the woman back to consciousness. A medical droid offered her medpacs, explaining the she would need to pay for them. Versha only took one. Afterwards, one of the guards was acting suspiciously so she followed him out of the room as the woman was taken to her cell, updating the others on the situation using her communicator.
Zadirra went to speak to Etxebarria to ask about the current situation and to collect the datapads of Sinagra.
Bonus Force Points
+2 (+1 as DM Tie-Breaker) to Eris for being willing to pick a fight with the entire palace (it was pretty funny), managed to make some pretty significant moves in RP; +2 to Layna for dropping a body at the guard's feet and saying "here's your weapon;" +1 to Versha for how kindly she treated the assassin, sticking well to her character.
Layna was following Sinagra. He reluctantly agreed to talk to her, saying that he owed it to the prince's father to keep him alive. He didn't think that peace with Recicide was possible as they were too untrustworthy, although Layna thought he was hiding something.
Za went after Editha Breda, telling a guard to take her to a cell. He sat opposite her and observed her, then offered her a chair, reassuring her that everything was under control. She was outraged at the suggestion that everything was under control on the council and that he was offering her a chair, adding that he was committing treason. Za wondered if her erratic behaviour was due to poison, calling Versha, and she and Za quickly swapped places. Za chased after her, coming across several guards with a rifle to her head and quickly taking one of them out. He called Layna for backup as he took out several other guards and intimidated the rest into surrender. Za asked for information and the guard explained that the person who hired them wore an orange masked and looked like a mercenary. He had been paid 60,000 credits between the four guards. He said that the person who hired them had been called Crusher and his ship had been called the Endurance. Za updated Node who told him that the Alderaanian authorities had already impounded the vehicle because it had been reported abandoned. He asked Zadirra for assistance, although Node expressed concern about Zadirra taking on another task, and then Za warned the rest of the group about the situation.
Bonus Force Points
+4 to Za for saving the prisoner and acquiring an additional prisoner, foiling an assassination plot in the process - clearly, Za shot first - boom! headshot; +1 to Layna for good roleplay and an excellent bluff.
Versha couldn't help a poisoned Breda but she stabilised her and took her off to the lab with the help of the court and the others joined her there with Sinagra's body. Most of them decided to stay the night to recover.
Layna was already in there and caught her hand underneath the holotable, where something sharp pierced her. She investigated and Zadirra joined in, with Zadirra also being hurt. Zadirra noticed that the table had been modified to be connected to the broadcasting system. Layna wondered if it could be redirected towards Node, although Node was less than enthusiastic about that idea. He looked over where it had been used in the past and it seemed to change depending on the prince's position. Zadirra and Layna started to dismantle the table.
Back in Breda's room, the wardrobe was open and seemed to be covered with blood. Etxebarria said it was the Queen Mother's, along with restraints inside the wardrobe. He thought she had been tortured. She had been given a lot of blood transfusions to make sure she would not stop bleeding. Zadirra updated him on what they had found.
Versha tried to stabilise the woman but with no luck, instead placing her in the cryopouch. She ran into the court physician who offered his lab to help Breda. Athena turned up and Versha suggested that she help Za.
Athena ran into Za and he updated her on the situation. She felt a disturbance in the Force to the south of where they were and went to check it out. Feeling wary about opening the door herself, she asked a guard to open it for her. Sinagra's body was on the other side, covered in blood. A holocommunicator on the desk flickered off but Za recognised the figure as Roxas. He had bloodstains smeared down his neck and his throat. Athena asked Zadirra to come and analyse the holocommunicator. When Zadirra arrived, she determined that the holocommunicator hadn't been operational in a while. Camera footage was missing of three minutes and thirty-seven seconds. They contacted Versha but she wasn't able to run over to help and Versha suggested that they come over to her instead.
Inside the lab, the doctor decided that Breda was probably affected by a neurotoxin and identified a false tooth that had probably been responsible, indicating it was intended to be suicide. The doctor passed her into a diagnostic scanner. When the others arrived, Versha determined that the cause of death was pressure from the inside outwards, which Athena thought it sounded more like a Force ability. Node chimed in to tell them that Roxas was likely to be nearby but had apparently not yet known of their involvement. Zadirra took the opportunity to update the others on what they had discovered. They decided to get some rest before meeting the prince in the morning.
Bonus Force Points
+4 to Versha for clever thinking in the midst of bad rolls, doing well in her role as the healer of the group and saving an important prisoner in the process; +1 to Zadirra for dealing with a spooky table, for coordinating investigation efforts, and for finding the body and torture chamber.
Zadirra's communication scanner had picked up some messages being sent to and from Sinagra's room, linking the device they had found to some houses associated with Regicide, and they went off to the prince's room to see if they could find anything there. They found a diary detailing his hallucinations that had started shortly after the king had been killed, and found a holocron that had been an attempt to stop them. The holocron badly injured Layna and Za when they tried to take it, and Athena managed to alert a Force user to their presence and quickly fled the room. Node told the others to follow her and he would send a shuttle to the palace courtyard.
After breakfast, they went off to the palace to visit the judiciary. Heron Scheinberg seemed to be in a better mood than they had yet seen him. The judge, on the other hand, was furious - too many people were missing, including the Queen Mother. The prince suggested invoking the 7th Writ of Regal Authority to allow proceedings to continue, to which the judge begrudgingly agreed.
They disappeared off to a side room and the judge pointed out that there had been a lot of political chaos due to the group. The judge explained that in 575 of the Alderaanian Noble Calendar, if the Regency Council is compromise, the crown prince may disband the council, declare emergency powers for 60 days, and then reinstate the council. He was concerned that the prince could take advantage of the power.
Zadirra invited Etxebarria to come and join them to present his findings to the judge, which he did, providing a handwritten report in flowery script on paper. Two DNA samples were found in the bloodstains, one from the real Queen Mother who had been there for around 2.5 months and the second being from an unknown human female, but the datapad was encrypted and unable to be accessed. He suggested checking Dietrich Doroteo and Zaahir Girish, palace guards, too. The judge said that he could delay the decision for a few hours but not indefinitely.
Zadirra's communication scanner didn't return much but one message did seem to be gibberish that was pointed towards Sinagra's room. It appeared to originate outside of the palace, about fifty kilometres to the north east, which corresponded to Mathisen, one of Regicide's houses. Other messages were sent to the datapad, and another message was received from the datapad. House Ailen also seemed to be involved. The discussions seemed to be around plans to kill the crown prince because they didn't like the Queen Mother and wanted her and her descendants to die. Zadirra opted for a 10-hour delay in order to find some more supporting evidence.
The prince's chambers were unguarded. While the others went inside to see if they could find anything. Versha contacted the court physician to find out if there were any updates. He expected it to have completed within 30 minutes, so Versha set a timer.
The others entered the them again and found a footlocker with a false panel on the bottom. Looking inside, they found a book containing his diary. Zadirra started reading it and found a number of were entries that expressed concern over having trouble with his memory and noted that he was having hallucinations - they had started purely auditory and got significantly worse over time, including visual, and they had started after the King was assassinated and involved the dead King essentially haunting his own son and tormenting him endlessly. To try and fix it he started delving into holocrons.
The group searched the room and found one in the desk that was secured to a stone pedestal hidden within a secret compartment. Za and Layna tried to get it out but were badly injured by lightning as they tried to pick it up. Athena tried to sense any other force users around using the Force and quickly found some people, recognising some of them. They sensed her detecting them and started moving towards the palace. This caused her to panic and flee the room, with the rest of the group following. Node contacted the group and told them to run - there was a ship incoming with no time to explain, and that there was a shuttle to meet them in the royal courtyard and pick everyone up. The group fled.
Bonus Force Points
+3 to Eris for discovering the secret holocron and then playing to her character when the consequences unfolded, despite it being a mechanical hinderance, but adding a significant deal to the story; +2 to Zadirra for the progress she managed to make in the investigation into matters and managing to lead a pretty stellar investigation.
Back on board the Kyrus, Spiro explained that he was expecting a civil war on Alderaan and told them to rest. Versha gave the golden data chip to Node to investigate while Layna went to talk to Marnhull and Athena went to see Vylan's room. Za meditated but was disturbed by a noise in the ceiling and was interrupted by a stranger.
Regicide's group immediately surrounded them, asking Za if he knew anything about the situation. He denied it. Similarly, Regicide denied all knowledge of knowing that Layna was the contact for negotiations.
A ship appeared in the sky, frightening Athena. She ran but was frozen a few paces away. A Sith stepped off the ship. The whole group of Regicide was struck to the ground, some of them headless. Layna tried to pass Versha her jetpack but Versha refused it. The Sith froze the entirety of the group, then crushed the court physician to death before introducing herself as Lord Sarti and telling Zadirra that she was the only one who could help reunite her with Talleran. She invited her to join her. Zadirra told her to let the rest of the group go and give them a couple of days' headstart. Zadirra agreed to join her at her side and the two walked off. Neither looked back.
Za looted Regicide's body and found 19,000 credits, while Versha placed an acorn on the court physician's body.
They returned to the Kyrus, Versha patching up Layna with the final medpac on the way. Versha left another acorn in Vylan's room as she passed and then headed to join the others on the bridge. Spiro explained that he was anticipating civil war on Alderaan but he was monitoring the situation. Athena's family was being monitored and Spiro explained that he was ready to collect them if it came to it. Athena told him that she had already lost her brother to Spiro's game. Spiro told them that they had done a lot of impressive work and that they should rest.
On board, Versha moved to a new room, then went to deliver the golden data chip to Node, explaining how she found it and that Regicide had been listening in to their communications, although Node didn't seem convinced.
Athena went to Vylan's old room and started cleaning up the bottles of alcohol.
Layna went to take a shower then went to clean her armour. She visited Marnhull afterwards, passing him a data chip and telling him that, if she were to fall, could he deliver it to Kuat, to a shopkeeper called Destal Traper? Marnhull agreed and gave her a hug.
In his room, Za heard noises in the ceiling and shot at it. A small creature dropped down and introduced himself as Horatio Magnanimous V, then Maurice Dominique VI. He left for the bridge, with a parting warning shot from Za. Node explained that the interior had just been cleaned.
Bonus Force Points
+4 to Layna for the conversation with Marnhull, great RP, and how she handled the situation on Alderaan's surface; +1 to Zadirra for sacrificing herself for the whole party, revealing herself, great RP and great story beat.
